Default Need Some Honest Opinions..

whats up everyone, my build is finally taking off and i am considering some different routes, and im just curious of the pricing, power, pros and cons of those routes, so anyone and everyones opinion/experience is appreciated.

my car is a 92 GSR. the motors got around 250k on it, and has perfect comp in 3 out of 4 cylinders. i am debating between rebuilding/building to boost, just rebuilding (all oem internals), or saying screw rebuilding and just putting basic bolt ons on. keep in mind im a full time college student, and i work around 24 hours a week for 8 dollars an hour.lol

right now the performance mods i have are:
-header
-full exhaust
-high flow cat
-intake manifold
-throttle body
-fuel pressure regulator

i am really likin the turbo route, and i read the turbo guide but im still not sure. sending my motor out and having it rebuilt kinda scares me. also the reason why i am really thinking about this is im going to be having about 700 rolling in soon + my tax returns some where around 450-500 hopefully.

let me know what route you think i should take and why. thanks everyone

rebuild the engine before you do anything, and put together a small turbo slowly.

while/if i get rebuilt should i get it all just oem or built? and yea i guess it does make sense to slowly part together a kit. only thing is how can i be sure the kit will go together well. and how do i know if the parts will go together?

just go oem, it can handle a good bit of boost stock and it will be reliable. and do some reading on piecing together one.

OEM rebuild with type r cams and pistons, ARP head studs, and aftermarket valve springs/retainers, especially if your planning on peicing together a little turbo kit. won't have to tear the engine apart later down the line and it would just be more reliable with a little bit of boost with those little upgrades in the valve springs and head studs.

won't need a big expensive build unless your trying to make a monster. which i doubt is your goal, more along the lines of a fun car to drive that you can also daily and not have to worry too much about it.

that from my experience is over a $8/hr students budget.
I think cheap done, just swap out the short block. you can find b18a1 in junkyards for 100 bucks alot here in va. or the longblock runs 140. intake to oil pan with accesories. these prices are at the local pickandpull.
ARP Head studs, yes. its mandatory in all my builds if I boost. good luck and let us know your route.

LS block is lower compression to begin with so you could run more boost and keep your VTEC head to run on your bigger displacement B18 block. The LS/VTEC build would keep you entertained until you parted together a decent turbo kit also and save you rebuild labor and parts if you can get a cheap legit shortblock!

My vote is LS/VTEC kit and ARP headstuds bought, swap bottom ends to a low miles LS, start saving for turbo, hit VTEC with your extra tenth of a liter, smile.

^^ I like this idea, Go with an N/A setup and then boost when you are out of school, you don't want to blowup your only car by boosting, because it WILL eventually blowup!

just rebuild the motor to oem specs, have a reliable daily driver and the rarest honda motor. IF you want to go fast now, i would suggest picking up an ls block and going turbo, and while you're doing that, rebuild your b17 block back to oem specs, so when that ls block does give out, you already have a spare
