Default 86 CRX 5 Speed Transmission Rebuild Problem

I am rebuilding an 1986 CRX 5 speed stock GW 2 transmission. As I reassembled the main shaft and counter shaft into the casing, the gear mesh on the counter shaft is 2-3 MM lower than the main shaft. Also, the end gear of the counter shaft is “bottoming out” on the bearing retainer plate. This tells me the counter shaft needs 2-3 MM of “lift” to match the gear mesh. However, the Honda shop manual does not show a shim or washer on the end of the counter shaft being needed.

I would appreciate your help.

you should be o.k. - the countershaft assembly is held in the correct position by the snap ring on the bearing that fits into the back half of the case (just below 5th gear) when you install the snap ring, it will lift the entire countershaft assembly off the bearing retainer plate at the other end
