Default This one may take a little while.......K20 build/swap

So I get to make a new thread where I get to post up lame pictures of my progress swapping in my first K20 swap.

I got the engine last weekend in a snow storm. Traded a guy a bunch of my B series parts and some $$$ for this "complete and in awesome running condition swap", which I trailered a few hours home in snow. The K20 swap included Kpro, Quaife LSD, 2 clutch setups, Megan Racing RSX header, etc.

So over the past couple days I have had the opportunity to dig in a finally get my hands dirty with this "complete and in awesome running condition swap," and I have found some surprises. Until I get done I will post up some pics and ramble on about whatever. Anyone, who is interested can follow along.....

Day 1

I have put about 200 miles on it in the past 2 years or so. I have matching wheels for the front, but they still have my huge 235-60-15" DOT tires on it. I had a goal to run 10's on a stock B18C, stock GSR tranny, street tires, in a street car. I did run 11's on a tamer setup than my last, but this one was plagued with problems. That is how I ended up with the K swap. Ohhhh, it was turbo'd...........

So here is my new engine.

Lightweight flywheel that came with the swap.

Quaife LSD that was included with the swap. The guy told me right off that 2nd and 3rd gear had grinding issues. I popped open the tranny and started to investigate. Found a brass synchro that was chewed up pretty good. I tried to get pics of it, but my camera would not focus on it. Im definitely going to need some synchros, hub, and slider for that gear. Im going to check into it further before I start to order some parts.

Check this out...started to look at the engine a little further in depth. As soon as I pulled this out I got worried.

After I pulled the coils off the spark plugs and the way two of the coils were looking I immediately pulled the plugs. Its always a good feeling when you pull two of the plugs out and the straps are completely missing. Keep in mind these plugs have 4 straps on them.

My poor vtec solenoid is also toast. I may have done this myself when I strapped the engine to my trailer. Definitely going to need a new one....

I pulled the power steering, A/C, wiring harness, starter, etc off the engine. I also did a leak down test with very disappointing results. Three of the cylinders are leaking past the exhaust valves and one of the cylinders is letting air escape down into the crankcase, so Im guessing the rings are done. The guy I got this swap from signed a bill of sale/trade stating that the engine is known good running engine that has never had any sort of mechanical problems. He removed this complete swap from his 2002 RSX-S that was totaled in a rear end collision. After I did the leak down test on the engine and found problems the guy told me there was no way and that up until the car was wrecked it was still pulling strong, never smoked, and he never had a problem with it. What do you guys think, around 30-40% leak in all cylinders!!??.........I am trying to see how he is going to resolve this problem. I was told by a friend that owns a pawn shop that since I wrote up that bill of sale and he signed it, I should have a legal leg to stand on I also have the guys address too. I am going to give him a little time to try and resolve this issue of him basically lying to me. If he doesnt attempt to do something, then I am probably going to talk to a lawyer. Feel free to chime in if you have ever ran into a problem like this and what the outcome was.

Also, on the good side I have some Innovative mounts and a Sparkks conversion harness on the way. Accidentaly won the conversion harness on eBay yesterday afternoon.

Oh by the way I like the "used, but not trashed look" so the car is not going to get a full shaved bay and it is not going to be a show car. I just do not have the time nor the fund$ and really it does not mean that much to me at this point in life to shave the bay and all that jazz. I like them on other cars, but not this one, not right now anyways........

It looks like it!!!!

I used to hate the color, but having owned this car for like 6 years or so, I think it has finally started to grow on me.

When you swapped in those Wiseco pistons, what bore did you go with? I did a search on those pistons you used and I think you may have did a .020" overbore.

Looks like a good build. Sorry to hear about the motor though, everyone gets screwed over every once in a while. I know I did on a motor before, but I don't think you'll get too far in court. I'd just say screw it (depending how much cash and type of parts you gave up) and move on with the build b/c even if you do win, it may take months to get a settlement.

Sleeve assembly with carbon synchros will be needed to fix the trans, possibly the mainshaft 3 and countershaft 2 gears as well.

As far as the engine, I'd consult with a lawyer now. The bill of sale might not mean anything if it wasn't signed by a notary.

Im sorta torn on what to do. I am a straight up guy, I really hate it when honest people get the shaft......I really do not have the time nor do I want to spend the $$$ to prove a point to this dude.

We will see what happens.

Before I went into this deal I talked with an old friend of mine that owns a Pawn business. He told me that a bill of sale should suffice since its what you do when you sell a car.

The gears on the trans, so far look ok, but I doubt they are in great shape... I have not pulled all the stuff off the shaft yet, but I noticed right off the damage that I mentioned before. The synchros are trashed big time. What is left of the the teeth, they do not look like they can take anymore.

Just got my Sparkks conversion harness in today. Waiting on my Innovative mounts, I got the 85a inserts so there is a wait.

Just did my tax returns and I was actually surprised with that. I will be buying some tranny and engine parts soon.

man...FCk scammers, i was sooo pissed about my swap.....it was in a flood you should look up the thread where i called him out....at least your crank turned over, lol and the motor was somewhat clean...it looked like someone used mine as a boat anchor, the oil pan still has crustations on it that i have to figure out how to get off....im glad to see you will be moving on with the build because you wont get anything but a headache trying to sue him...let see some teal hatch updates bro!

Ive done a little work. Separated the head from the block last night. Found another problem and took a pic of it. I found that little orange chunk of chain guide over in the head.

Other than that I started to install my heater back in there since I plan on driving it more.

Naaaa, I am not spending another $1000+ on an engine and then rebuilding it with new pistons......Atleast that is what I would have to do with the Accord block. I can put the same $$$ into this one with new OEM parts and get good power out of it, plus it will be a brand new engine practically.

Im just going to rebuild what I have and make it work. Plus I am not going to get any kind of money back from that flippin lame poor excuse for a human. I still have a good mind to pursue this issue legally. Actually, now that I am thinking about it I am going to send him another text.

I can post up the dudes entire name, but Im not going to do that right now. Hit me up on a PM or something and I can further in depth. He did get a bunch of parts from me that are legit and good to go. So he may be selling that stuff........He is from Greenville, SC...

good luck with that.... by the time you travel, pay court cost cause your going to lose, and deal with all the stress, you are going to be even more way outta whack...try to get a little cash back from him and move on...you bought a used engine with no warranty and people are fckin liars, how can you persue that?
