Default Transmission compatability 96 DX

Hi my wifes 96 DX sedan just had the transmission go out on it.

It's an auto transmission for the 4 cylinder.

I'm wondering what other transmissions are possible to change between this one?

What is the standard procedure for changing an auto transmission? Anyone got a DIY/How to for it?

I don't want to convert to manual (I've done that on a few cars already) as this is my wife's daily.

At the local pick-n-pull there are 5 accords in year range from 94 to 97 with auto transmissions, but the one that is 96 is beat up and high mileage. There is one 94 with low mileage and the engine is in great shape so I'm guessing the trans should be too, but I need to know what years are compatible.

Thanks

94-97 is what you need.

Both OBD1 and OBD2 VSS sensors, shift control solenoid and lock up control solenoid are the same. The wiring and connectors would have been the only thing I could see being a problem. The mainshaft spline count from 94-97 are the same as well.

'94-'97 are the same transmissions.
The only differences are the Wagons have a different FD and possibly larger pan.
Our '95 had a '97 trans in it til recently.
