Default My simple Harvard Blue Pearl EG hatch build

Weather has finally started to clear up and snow has melted so I figured I would start my build thread for my 1992 DX hatch. I bought it due to having small accident (pic below) with my LS swapped 93 del Sol that caused me to lose interest in continuing with the project. I bought my del Sol already done for the most part with the swap already done and it had springs/shocks on it. The swap consists of a 92 (ironic? lol) b18a1 which was boosted at one time by a previous owner but has been re-ringed, new bearings, waterpump ect ect. Mated to the LS is a JDM b16 ys1 tranny with a 4.7 ITR final drive. Gearing is short to say the least haha.
So I came across this hatch at a used car dealer, near perfect body with no rust, minimal dents, just a few scratches but not major. I looked at this car probably countless times and haggled with the old lady that owned the dealer for prob 3 months. Finally she came down to a price I wanted so I bought it. The d15b7 ran good with only 106k miles on it and the auto shifted nice so I decided to get it tagged before I did the swap. Failed emmisions horribly only to find out between the time I purchased it and got it to DMV the headgasket started to let go. Sucks but it wasnt really that big of a deal, just means I can't sell the motor as a whole. Well enough jabbering from me, on with the pics lol

The sol

EX cluster is in.

So far just basics are out like ac, ps (going manual with the subframe from my sol). Few other odds and ends are out so the single is basically ready to come out

Going to be doing a minor wire tuck as well as scrubing the bay and fixing some surface rust by the battery tray and fuse box.

Body will be very basic, sir head and tail lights, vision amber corners, duckbill, ex/si lip with fresh bumper, my GSR blades, as well as lowered with my del Sol's current suspension (Goldline springs, no idea how much the lower it).

Some parts sitting in my room waiting for the swap, was going to snap some pics of them but camera died So heres just a quick list.

-Hytech replica header
-TDM adjustable length testpipe
-Kteller 2.5 SS catback
-Tanabe Super Hyper Medallion muffler
-Mishimoto alum. rad and 12" slim fan
-Spoon rep. mirrors
-ITR shift linkage/shifter
-Innovative EG auto to manual w/ b series cable tranny mount (still waiting on it)
-new H emblems from Honda (already on)
-alot more to come guys

Will post up pics of progress made/parts in, feel free to comment and make suggestions!

Thanks guys, I seriously fell in love with this color when I first saw it. I had decided after the accident I wanted a hatch instead of putting a new quarter on the sol. I wanted something hella clean that needed no body work. Under the driver headlight (the white spot) is paint flaking, previous owner bumped something at like 5mph, chipped paint and cracked bottom of the bumper as well as pushed the corner of the fender in 1/4 inch if that, easy fix. As far as the old lady part allmotorbaby, it was an older fellow from what I was told. I'm the 3rd owner and 2nd owner bought it with 20k miles on it.

Only thing that I've found altered on it that pissed me off was the light socket for one of the rear tail lights, someone rigged up a universal one and f'd up the hole for the socket on the actuall light.

Riiight lol. Good thing I've convinced you to swap your coupe and not sell it lol. Prob after this next storm we'll push it into my garage and I'll get you to bring the engine hoist over so we can yank this biotch out, then work on the bay.

As far as updates, can't say much has happened. I have unbolted the fuse box to get some more room free'd up and check the extent of the rust. Its not major at all just some surface with one SMALL pinhole where its gone through and I will be sanding it down as well as spraying it with that Rustoleum rust stop stuff. Picked up a mint VSM battery tray from an EK.(there the same, easier to find rust free EK parts than EG parts) from my friend who works at a junkyard, who used to be into the Honda scene, now has an Evo lol. Always nice to speak Honda when trying to get parts at the 'yard. When you say EG, EK, DC, D/B series they look at you like your dumb. lmao.
Primed and painted the tray with some Duplicolor paint which is pretty close to HBP. Have to wait til the motors out to really get some room to tackle the rest of the rust though.
Of course pics as soon as I remember to grab batteries on my way home from work.

Thanks, still got some cleaning to do as far as it being dirty, Simple green for the bay, and Wax Blaster for the trim. Some douche who waxed it last got the wax all over ALL the trim and stained it all. This Wax Blaster stuff I found online is supposed to break it down and restore it back to black and not cover it up like some do.

Finally got some batteries

Pic of the rust, it looks alot worse in the pic than it is. Already took a wire brush to it and just need to knock it down a lil more with some sand paper and it'll be good

Battery tray I picked up and painted. Color is a tad lighter than the body but its close enough to work and beter than flat black patches in my bay lol.

Hytech Rep. (second owner but still BNIB)
and TDM 4 way adjustable test pipe, allows it to be shorter than stock to bolt up between the long tube header and catback.

Speaking of catback, 2.5 stainless KTeller "bolt up" kit.

ITR linkage and shifter
Mishimoto alum. rad and 12" slim fan
Spoon rep. mirrors.

And lastly the GSR blades on my sol which will be getting put on the hatch. (idea of the stance as well with the Goldlines)

MAYBE if my boy 99EJ8 is avail. to give me a hand and lend his engine hoist the motor will be coming out of the hatch Saturday while I'm off work. Waiting on a stock 2 inch cat. so after I swap I can get that welded in between mani and stock exhaust to get through inspection. Might even rock the factory air box lol. After that the Hytech, test pipe, kteller and Tanabe Super Hyper Medalion muffler (don't have yet) are going on.

Prob the last thing holding me up is Innovative. I ordered a EG auto to manual B series cable tranny mount over a month ago. I knew it was a custom made mount and would take a while (I figured a month tops). As of today nothing. I've been calling every other day for the entire month. The woman just kept jerking me around and saying "oh its in production", or "almost ready to ship". I finally got fed up and asked to talk to one of the techs. Which I HIGHLY reccomend if you plan on doing bussiness with them. The mount isn't very popular as you can imagine and they lost the file for the program that cuts out the pieces LOL. So it had to be re-designed. Why the woman couldn't have just told me this IDK. So after speaking with Greg for a bit he assured me it was being made and would be ready in a timley manner as well as providing me with his contact info to speak with him directly about my order.

Thanks guys, real work starts soon, pulling the motor, wire tuck, paint touch up in the bay, might get rid of the ac condensor brackets too. If its not needed its coming out. The LS motor is a very basic motor as it is, plus a cable tranny, even simpler, no ac, ps, power options at all. All goes along with the theme of the car... Simple.

Thanks, it sucks but it was a sign. It was time to build/swap something of my own. The sol was done for the most part I just added a few odds and ends. Mainly why I wanted a 100% stock starting point to build off of. Good news, just went and picked up the engine hoist so me and 99EJ8 will be pulling the D tommarow! Who knows what else we'll get done.

99EJ8 and myself managed to get the motor out lol. Did pretty well for neither of us ever doing it before. Researched it and came up with a solid plan of attack, did work, and BAM, now I have a shell.

Took majority of the day. Only a few minor snags but nothing unable to be resolved by a hammer or hacksaw. On with some pics.

Just starting to get little **** out the way.

Breaking ball joints and lower shock bolts loose to get axles out.

Auto shifter/cable was a pain in the *** to say the least lol. Wiring was easy.

Every exhaust bolt refused to come off so I had to take drastic measures. Couldnt just rip it all off, need catback to go through inspection.

Random pic of 99EJ8's head. Took seat out to get to pedals even though we didn't get to take them out yet.

Hooked up and ready to pull.

Free'd from the shell.

Needs some cleaning/paint.

2 thumbs down for the blown single cam lol.

Somehow this managed to make its way on

2 big thumbs up from me LOL.

Next up Simple Green the bay, sand that rust down some more, tuck, paint, and take some more stuff out I don't need.
