Default quic question about factory immobilizer

I'm pretty sure I lost my keys to my Civic, so I call up my local Honda dealer and the guy at the service desk tells me my car has the immobilizer system and they key is gonna be $135. I'm almost 100% 2000 Civics did not come with factory immobilizer. I used to work for Circuit City and had my remote start/alarm installed there and the car installer is a good friend of mine. i called him to ask about getting a new alarm remote and mentioned the key thing and he laughed and said there's no way because he would have needed a spare key and would have used a resistor box otherwise the remote start wouldn't have worked. is this ******* at Honda just trying to play me?
