Question on distributor
After reading some threads here, I've come to the conclusion that my oil leak must be coming from the distributor. I want to change the two seals but not exactly sure how to go about removing the distributor. I read my manual and it says I have to find TDC and other stuff, but from reading the threads, it seems like people just make line up markings, unbolt then just put the dizzy back in with the markings alligned. Can I just mark how the dizzy sits now and then remove or do I need to do all the steps the repair manual says? Thanks in advance
if this is on an f or h i know that you can just take it off and replace the o ring. mark with a marker on the housing and the mounting location where it is now and you will be fine. you can advance or retard the timing by turning the dist. its not going to hurt anything if its not exactly where it was.
No need to put the engine at TDC, the distributor key only fits into the camshaft key way in one direction without forcing it.
In order to replace the internal seal you have to remove the distributor internals. When you take the c clip off of the distributor shaft to remove the distributor key. You will see that there are markings on the base of the housing and the key itself. As long as you line the rotor in the no 1 cylinder firing position and line the markings up on the base and key everything will line up.
If you tell me the make model & year of your car. I can give you more precise information about the markings, and a step by step on how to replace the inner seal. The F22A*, F22B1, F22B2 H22 H23 have different markings and internal parts.

Sorry guys, it's on a 94 f22b2. Alright, so I gotta make sure I line up the markings when I do the internal seal.... Ghost, thanks a lot for the internal seal info.....
