how to get to the speakers in a 96 civic?
ok i have a friend and she want to change her back speakers but i have an eg and her car is not the same, so anyone got some input in how to do that.
It's a huge pain on the coupe (and I think it's similar on the sedan). You have to remove the back seats first... fold them down, pull back the backing on the bottom where the two parts meet and on the sides and remove the bolts. This should allow you to remove the back portion. As I recall, the bottom part just sort of pulls out at this point. Then (on a coupe) you must remove the plastic trim/arm rest piece on each side. It's big and annoying but not hard. I think it's just clips, but double check for a bolt or screw and be careful not to break the clips. Finally, remove the plastic trim on the trunk shelf thing. I think you have to pop out the little ring around the keyhole to fold down the seats, then just pop the shelf up and out (once again, be careful with the clips). This gives you access to the speakers; unscrew them, unplug the wiring harness and throw your new 6x9s in.
I haven't done this in a while, so hopefully I didn't forget anything, but I'm 99% sure this is what you have to do. In a four door I think there's no side/armrest panels to remove but it's otherwise more or less the same. I'm not sure where the speakers are in the rear of a hatch.
