Leaking crank seal Q's.
Hey HT.
Yesterday i helped a mate change his timing belt/water pump and crank seal on a D15b4. Everything went pretty smooth, took the old seal out, made sure i put the new one in the correct direction, I also applied a light coat of oil around the outsides and was careful to prevent the inside of the seal from folding back on itself (took a couple of goes).
Anyway, got it on, pressed it in firm so it was sitting evenly on both sides and wouldn't go in any further. Put everything back on and together, car started fine first go, and dropped it's whole tank of oil straight out of the lower timing belt case.
I'm assuming it's coming from that seal. We'll be tearing it back down to see what the drama is on Thursday, but i was wanting to seek any advice from people who have done this before. Was there something i missed? Something that's vital to prevent this from leaking? It wasn't just a small leak, it was a stream.
TIA.
