Default temp gauge on HOT?

I just got done with my little db project. So that sayed, when i turn the key over to the ON position or even if the car is on with a cold start. The temp needle on the gauge says HOT. Im having a hard time trying to figer this out, also i will fill up my radiator with water/coolent and turn on the car to see if it cools down I dont think it does, with the cap off of the radiator and car on, it does not bubble up nor level of liquid goes down very far.

if any one can help even just alittle that would be great. thanks(noob)

So the engine is cold after sitting over night the temp gauge sensor goes straight to hot.

The gauge is either bad or the coolant temp sensor is bad.

The ECT Sensor is a Thermistor. Its voltage value changes with resistance. Get two sewing needles to back probe the sensor. Measure the voltage to the sensor. It should be a 5volt referance. With the engine off and coolant cold. (let it sit over night) Your voltage value should be at least 1 volt. If it is .1-.5v the ECT is bad and need replaced.

Let me know what you find

i think your definition of a thermistor is incorrect. a thermistor resistance varies with temperature, i dont think voltage comes into play with the dash gauge at all. the sensor is a 1-wire sensor under the dizzy, maybe you are confusing it with the 2-wire coolant sensor for the ecu? (also under the dizzy)

Not to long ago I had to replace the ICU (fuse box on driver's side by the floor). I accidently forgot to plug in one of the connectors that I think was a relay. I couldn't get the car to shut off, even with the key out of the ignition. My temp shot straight to the H and stayed there, but when I had everything connected it was corrected and was back to normal. I'm not sure if the relay (or whatever it was) has something to do with it, but that was my experience, might be worth checking in to. Check what was mentioned before first, I'm sure these guys know way more than I do with these cars, Good luck.

ok i got the one wire temp gauge sensor but now it doesent go to HOT anymore but it doesent go up at all. even when the car is wormed up. when i start the car i would let it run for just a min and i can feel the heat from the headers. also i dont see that the coolent from the radiator going down nor berp. im kinda puzzled by this im thinking the water pump or the thermostat. and the temp gauge problem ima have to barrow some ones gauge and see if my gauge is broke. can it be anything els?

pretty sure it was the 1-wire sensor. you need to properly bleed to cooling system. run the car with the radiator cap off until the fans cycle on/off. make sure to top off the coolant as you go. be patient as it may take 10-20 minutes depending on the temp outside

also are you sure the wiring is in good order?
