I have a 97 Honda Civic Cx hatchback. I recently upgraded my manual windows to power from a 97 Civic Ex Coupe. I interchanged the stock ground harness, driver and passenger door harness with the Ex harnesses. Also used the switches, door panels, relay, side mirrors and tweeters from the Ex.

Every time I roll down the window, it seems as though the idle drops alot. But as soon as I let it go, the idle goes back up. Kinda like its draining the power or something.

Is this normal? maybe grounding issues? any suggestions?

I didn't spray paint that door handle panel red but in the process of spraying it back charcoal.

 

In the process of sanding and painting those switch panels as I type. But until then, can someone simply answer this question and is familiar with the conversion. Thanks

My friend told me to try and replace the fuses for the mirrors to a 30amp instead of the 20amp. Will this work? Hopefully its not too much...

 

Ya man i dont have your answer but i would love to know cuz mine do a similar thing. My idle doesnt go down or anything but the inside dome light dims a little and its just strange to me ya kno.

 

Yeah, hopefully someone have a solution for this problem. I dont think the stock ex coupes and hx models have a problem with this but I figured if I converted everything from the ex to the civic hatch, that it wouldnt be a problem. Because Im using the ex floor harness, door harness, relay, etc...

It could be your alternator is weak or battery is getting old. But I'd start with the ELD, sounds like its not working. Its function is to increase idle speed when a load is detected to smooth the "hit" a high power accessory takes so that you don't feel it. It really isn't a big deal and won't hurt anything like it is. Most people get rid of the ELD anyway,

 

I heard that power window use alots of power so you might want to check to see how much of voltage are been drop when you use it. I did check to see if all ground and connections are tight and secure. Test your alternator at any auto zone to see if working well..

 

It's fairly common for the idle to drop when drawing a lot of current from the electrical system.

I'm pretty sure the problem is, at idle, your engine isn't turning quick enough for the alternator to produce enough current. I bet the problem would be amplified if you turn on your fan, rear defroster, and A/C.
