There's a side-by-side comparison test on the Tire Rack website that includes the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, Yokohama Advan Neova AD08, Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, and Kumho Ecsta XS. Check it out: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...irePageLocQty=
Also check out Andy Hollis's comments in this topic.
Bottom line, all of these tires (including the Toyo R1R) are excellent, and performance differences among them are relatively small (except that the XS is a bit worse on wet pavement). And, as Shawn noted, the Star Spec (along with the Kumho) is priced less than the others in the group.
I haven't heard much yet about Hankook's new Ventus R-S3 Z222 or, obviously, the upcoming Falken RT-615K, or how they compare.

The problem with the RS-3 is that they are only available in limited sizes. The only RS-3 size that fits the Integras and older Civics most common on this site is the uberwide 225/45-15, and there's nothing for 16" or 17" wheels. That 225/45-15 size is fine for track/autocross use but those who are using their tires for daily driving (and those who don't have wide wheels) are more likely to stick to narrower sizes like 205/50, in which you can buy the other sticky tires but not the RS-3.

True, but I thought this was the RR/Autox sub-forum. If they want cheap thrills and good enough grip for the street, look towards the UHP tires instead of the Extreme. They will last longer and be easier on the wallet. But if you are serious about track/autocross performance on street tires you are looking for the best street tire that will suit your need for speed/grip.
Gee, then by your logic - which has absolutely nothing to do with tire sizes, nice way to ignore what a post says and go off on an irrelevant rant - we shouldn't be talking about any of these tires in this forum, because they are only street tires. And by your logic, we should only be talking about R compounds here, and nobody should ever be using the same tires on the street as on the track/autocross.

====================================
will 225/45R15 fir 15X7" ?
i tried 225 on 7.5" or 215 on7"

The Hankook is a great tire if you can/want to fit them to your car. The grip stays constant from full tread to cording and shouldn't be considered a problem just because there isnt much variation in size. Hankook is also one of those rare companies that ask the RR/AutoX community what sizes would sell. Dunlop just did so recently and now the 195's and 205's are finally available.
Also note that my reviews on tires are from an autocrossers point of view and my opinions are strictly based on performance on the track.
Yes. (Hankook approves the R-S3 for widths of 7.0-8.5".) That size is about the same outer diameter as 205/50-15, so the diameter isn't a clearance issue. Depending on your car and the offset of your wheels, the added width may or may not be a clearance issue (in which case a little fender flaring may cure it).
Me too.
Me too.
my set up,
205/50/15 on 15in GSR Fat Fives. 35lbs of air all around
impression,
there is a vagueness in the steering. i can't say for sure if its cause of the 15x6 rim, or the air pressure, but i can differently feel the sidewall roll a little. this is only from one quick spirited run. i have yet to adjust the air pressure to see if that would help.
also the first autox of the season is at the end of the month so we will see then.
