1986 Hatch, same as CRX?
I posted this in the CRX/EF forum, but was told I would have more luck here
Hi all, this is my first post here, but definitely not my first experience with Honda's (2006 Civic Si happens to be in my driveway right now) :D
I currently drive a 1996 Neon (boo!) and am interested in trading a friend for his non-running 1986 Civic. The Civic had the carbureted engine in it, and is blown. Included in sale would be a D15 from an EG.
My question is, engine-bay wise, is the 86 hatch identical to the 88-91 Civic and CRX? Also, besides the basics (ECU, harness, etc) is there anything special I need to swap a D series into this 86? Anyone know which axles and motor mounts I'd be using? I've been looking around, but I can't seem to find any info on anything before an 88. I'm hoping it's because they are the same as the CRX, under the hood.
I appreciate it, and thank you for reading. Hopefully with a couple of answers and directions I'll be on the road in a Honda in no time
EDIT: after some more research, it's looking like the crx is identical to the 3rd gen civic under the hood. Hoping to get some confirmation on this.
Also, what's the easiest way to make a hydro trans work with my cable pedal? Thanks!

firstly, the 84-87 Civic is the same as an 84-87 CRX. surprise! they made a CRX before 88.
secondly, no it's not the same. different mounts all together, different trans, different axles, vaccuum advance instead of electrical advance, and the civic would have to be converted to fuel injection first.

^^ What he said ^^
84-87 (3rd gen) civic are the same as 84-87 (1st Gen) CRX, and to some extent the 1st gen integras. however they differ from the EF (88-91) civic and crx
The best way to use a hydro tranny is to get Hasport or Innovative cable to hydro conversion kits.
side note: Hasport recently released a kit that allows you to drop a hydro tranny into those bodies. Its for b-series tho
Should check out red pepper racing for all your 1g/3g info.
