Clutch problems, cold weather?
If it's worn out, then it might not have enough friction to catch the flywheel. If it's cold, then It could be even less tacky than it would be warm. Check your slave cylinder, make sure it's not leaky or worn out.
If it's cable, then maybe it snapped due to being cold. I've never worked on a cable clutch, so I dunno. Before you go pulling the trans, I'd definitely check the cable, though. I know that cables that open the hood latch and gas flap are known to snap or seize in cold weather. I have to put a new hood release cable on my car every couple years. They suck.
Make sure your cable is adjusted properly, tighten it until the slack is taken up then back it off just a bit, too tight can cause premature wear of the clutch release bearing.
If the weather really is causing the clutch to slip then it must be on its way out.
