Default 2000 honda civic Ex rear brake conversion

hey you guys. new to this site. i just bought a 2000 honda civic Ex and im looking to change the rear drum brakes into some disk brakes. my question is where can i get some or what car should i be trying to get them off. any help would be great.

One way is to pull whole spindles off of any 92-00 Civic or Integra with rear disc, then add EM1 ebrake cables. This is the most commonly used method.

Another way is to get the Scarebird conversion brackets that allow you to bolt disc calipers onto drum spindles. This is nice because you save the cost of the spindles, and can then piece together a better setup.

Or, you can piece everything together. If I remember correctly, the best rotor/caliper setup is EP3 calipers and rotors. They will work with the Civic and Integra disc spindles, or the Scarebird brackets. You can also get the EP3 calipers off of the rear of a 5th gen Prelude, but they're swapped left to right and upside down. Exact same part number, but they're mounted on the Prelude completely backwards.

No big deal, just remember if you end up finding 5th gen Prelude calipers that the one that was on the left on the Prelude goes upside down on the right on the Civic. Otherwise, it's the exact same caliper as the EP3. You can't use the Prelude rotors though, because they're 5 lug. You have to use the EP3 rotors.

If I remember correctly, this is the biggest rear rotor and best caliper setup you can get in 4x100 without any extra fabrication of the rotors.

You'll still need EM1 cables regardless. You may also need an Si or Integra proportioning valve, possibly with or without ABS. The jury's out on whether or not you actually need to swap the prop valve. Some people say they have major problems with the rears either hanging up or not braking enough without a prop valve swap. Other people say they have no problems at all. If you have the time, I'd probably recommend doing the swap without the prop valve, see how it works, then buy one if you decide you need it.

All this time, trouble and money spent....yet will get no performance gain. Are you sure you want to do the conversion?

Well... if you do it right and have some good junkyard finds, you can do it all for well south of $200. I found a set of Prelude calipers for like $20. I agree it usually doesn't really add performance, but it sure as hell looks better. I don't know for sure, but I think the big EP3 swap would probably offer improved performance over the stock drums, but it can't be very much.

That said, I've never actually finished my conversion because I've never wanted to drop another $100 bucks on a mod that doesn't really add performance. And everytime I look at my damned drums I wanna finish it lol.

Get the 99-00 Si rear disc brakes for about $150-$175. Perfect fit!

im totally new to the whole tuner world. i just started intro to automechanics and im trying to work on my car while i learn about it. (if that makes sense) and yes i really want to change out my drums because they look horrible IMO. andybody know where i can get some 00' Si rear disks brakes?
