HX Manual Transmission substitute
Can I use any D series 5 spd in my 1997 HX D16Y5. Thinking I have transmission problems (making noise in first) so looking to get prepared in case I need to swap out and put another one in. Could I use one out of a EX instead? Thanks

to make it simple,
Any transmission from 1996-2000 is a bolt on ( from personal experience ).
But the transmissions from previous years ( 92-95 ) will also bolt up and work.
-- so basically any hydraulic D series transmission will work for you --1992-2000

If you want something geared similar get a '92 - '95 CX/CX tranny. HX trannys are kind of an oddball, they're geared long, like a VX tranny, but they use a big bearing case/diff like an EX/Si.
As long as this not a CVT (and I assume it's not since you specified a first gear), then all the usual swap how-to's apply. The CVT requires a custom transmission mount.
well since cvt is an automatic and were talking about 5 speeds....You can make a custom geared hx trans if you wanted.
With a noise in first are you talking stoped at a light with clutch in or taking off from a light? Also have you tried to change the fluid in it with new honda MTF?
