my hx tranny makes a noise when th eclutch is engaged and when its not it goes away. its like a knocking/ tapping noise when i drive and if at idle its there until u push the clutch in the noise goes away. i heard its the isb. now i can get an ex tranny from craigslist for 100, should i get it or just replace the bearing in the hx? im thinkin ex tranny. also i have a new slathe on the hx tranny, can i put it on the ex one?

 

It sounds like you have a bad trow out bearing / bent shift fork. If it were me, id check that out before spending 100 dollars on another trans.

 

how would you check a fork? im sorry mine also makes a noise but ive already replaced the bearing and its still there just not as bad..i hear it when in first and second gear sometimes third and fifth..
has prper amount of oil.. and ive been told it might be springs in clutch but it still grabs good..what should i check first? sorry not tryin to thread jack

I'd replace the bearing, that or rebuild the EX trans before you put it in. Both use the same slave.

96-00 forks rarely bend or break. I've not had any that have done either, Bone has had one break (interlock finger) and JFK has bent a 1/2 fork in his 6xxwhp car.

freeagent, check all the bearings as well as the diff, and main/diff shim clearances.

so im goin to research on how to do that properly but im wondering do you think ill need to go ahaed and pull the tranny and put another one in or are these things fairly easy check and it wont be down for to long? it doesnt really matter cause its not my daily and i have a couple other trannys
