TL vs RL for a daily driver need some input
Hey guys
Im getting a bit older so im thinking of selling my project civic coupe and im looking for a for a daily driver as i drive alot around 4000k a month.
So i was looking at getting a 2004-2008 TL or a 2005 RL.
Im not sure why but the prices of the RL are the rough same price as the TL.
We have big winters here so the AWD would be a nice bonus but looking for a auto v6 acura.
Anyone driven both and there impressions?

Me personally I feel more at home in the TL. I like the interior better, and it feels more like what I'm accustomed to driving a Integra. I like the way the RL Feel driving (suspension) wise but the body just feel to big, like im driving a Pontiac Gran Prix or something. Dash and everything feel a bit blah to me also.
I would deff choose the TL. Its a magnificent car, and they have no issues in snow really. They just plow through it.
The SH-AWD Is not really designed for weather use such as snow. But its all up to your feel, Get in both and drive em both.
You considering spending a bit more and getting a Type S?

the RL is a whole different car than the TL. TL is sporty and IMHO the interior is not as nice. Given the choice I would rock the RL over the TL. the TL Type S will definately run you more on insurance and the 28 extra hp isnt like it was between the old TL and TL type S
A used RL can be a very nice buy if you find the right one. In many ways the previous generation RL was a step ahead of all of its competition and, except for certain interior design elements, appears to be entirely modern even compared to vehicles that were designed for the 2010 model year.
There are a lot of complicated electronics, like CMBS on the later years, but the electronics seem to be entirely reliable even though they don't seem to raise the appraisal of the used RL.
If you are any kind of driving enthusiast, and SH-AWD is within your possibilities as far as purchase price goes, I don't think you're going to want anything else after you've tried it.

RL can/will cost more to maintain in the future.
You have to remember you're comparing a $35k car to a $50k car.
AWD and advanced electronics may be a complete nightmare for you. FWD with VSA works very well in the snow, team it up with Winter tires and you're set.
The stereo system in the RL absolutely ROCKS!!

Thanks guys.
Ive been looking at TL's for a while and been in a few and i love them.
But the fwd in the snow we get up here in canada your just spinning the tires and the TSC is going nuts. I sort of told myself i would never go back to a unibody for winter driving.
Ive looked at the RL there very rare up here, As the 2 acura dealers i talked to here said they have not had any probs with that car other then naglected tranny fluid changes and fluid change points, but other then that the elec no probs.
I liked the car for the fact of the awd. I looked at a new tl awd but its $$ right now.
I can get a used RL for the same price as the TL.
Im just curious to hear from anyone who has one and there impression on how they like the car compaired to a TL.

I love my TL , I have 2 kids and it's sporty with luxurys . I've drivin this car all over europe and this car has alot to offer for the price . I typically drive all autobahn and my average speed is about 110 mph all day and it does it without blinking and up to 150mph when the governor hits.
This is the best car I've ever owned . We also get alot of snow here and i'm yet to have any problems driving through snow. ya the RL is the top model but whats the cost difference ? I prefer the body of the TL as well . I drive it daily and I couldnt be happier JMO .

I was in your shoes about 2 weeks ago. I went with the RL, and its pretty legit. Its very responsive and comfortable to drive. I was reading an article saying that its one of the best cars under 100k. I only spent 17k out the door. Easy decision.
Thanks guys. I think im more sold on the RL cause of the price. Was talking to a few acura sales guys and people are scared of the RL due to the fact they think its going to cost to much to fix or the person just does not know about the car period.
Im a mechanic and fabricator by life lol. I looked at junk yards for various parts. trans, diffs, head lamps, and various computers and sensors and there not that exspensive. So i think this summer ill be picking one up.
I know what i wanna do to the car. TEIN comfort coil over suspension. Some better tires, I will make some Downpipes/header assembly for this car as header is casted in the head. a exhaust and very quiet set of mufflers, and other then that fluid changes and prevetative maitnence.
