2002 RSX-S...pros/cons
i searched for this but it was no help...Im looking into a 2002 rsx type s...it has 62k miles on it...i was just looking for some of your guys favorite things and not so favorite things about it. Im not HUGE into modding so that side doesnt really affect me...what are commons problems they have...any general info is appreciated.
1st and 2nd gear synchros too. Mine will pop third once in a blue moon, but it feels like when I do it its because I am not putting all the way into the gate.
I just got mine too, it has 120k on chassis and 70 on motor/trans.
Handles good with A-spec. Interior is very stylish, and I really like it. Good gas mileage. I considered several other cars too.
IS300 - Just not sporty enough unless you get sport design or put turbo on it, neither of which I have money for. Nicer interior.
WRX - Unless its an STI, or you drive like gramma, tranny will be farked eventuall. Gearsets = 2-3k without labor.
Prelude - Everyone I looked at was ragged out.
Legend Coupe - All high mileage, head gasket issues. No aftermarket to speak of.
tC - Not on scion bandwagon. Didnt like interior as much. Not as much HP
Celica GTS - Seem a little pricey compared to type-s. I probably would have gotten one if there was one available at the right price/mileage/condition.
Civic Si - Dont like EP3, new one to expensive. Couldnt find an em for right price that wasnt completely riced out.

I wish I had looked into Scion before I got mine. (at the time) I had no idea they came factory with internals that could handle over 400hp.
I've had my -S since 03 and it's a fantastic car. Like they said there are problems with the transmission doing what it needs to do, but with only a few bolt ons the car can be a beast on the road.

I got a '03 -s with 31k on and i kinda can feel the 2nd gear synchro starting to grind at higher rpm shifts. And one thing that I hate about my rsx in particular is messing around with the tps sensor. Never can get that crap working right lol.
btw put it on craigs just testing waters.

the 3rd gear popout/grind issue is basically it. i love my type s. dont get a scion or a celica unless you want to be gay. mpg is great, no matter if its city or highway, easy to mod (but i see your not into that), looks good, Drives great.
seems to me all your car have issues. i drive a 2002 rsx type s with 174523 miles not one problem with it, and my cars a daily plus a beast on the trak.. so i would give tha rsx type s a 10........................
This. The suspensions are suspect. Don't even compare to the older SLA suspensions set ups Honda use to run. Def not as fun as a swapped eg or ej. Parts are still expensive. Hatch has a tendency to leak. Transmission can have issues. Leather seats wear quickly and tend to tear at the stitching.
What is the problem with the suspension? I've been hearing and reading about suspension problems with the '02 Type-S, but no body mention a particular problem.
