Do you plan on driving on a highway for long periods of time?

I have a 4.7, I wish I had a 4.9...

Anyways to give you an idea of the ratios..

Y21 tranny, 4.785 final drive..

50 kp/h @ 5th gear 2,300 some rpm's.

Use this calculator to find a fair median for a highway driven car and short gear rations

http://www.zealautowerks.com/transcalc.php

input your transmissions current gear ratios and play around with the final drive.

The link is great for visualizing the gear differences.

Thats what has made me want a ls 5th gear in the B16 tranny. have fun. But still be able to drive on the highway at bellow 3.5k

Yap that works, I personally havent done it. But after buddies were making bets that it wouldnt make a difference , one did it. And cruising on the highway in his em1 at 110 km/h he dropped if i remember correctly 500 rpm . ( stock FD 4.4)

Said if you are not gas happy youll see some gains, but if you are gas happy you will be downshifting alot more to pass on the highway vs the normal gearing.

But in your case as your upping the FD it might net you the same stock 5th gear gearing.
