b20 wont run
just put my b20 vtec together and i can't seem to get it cranked over. so fare i have checked compression (180 in all cylinders) the plugs seem a nice brown colour. at fist it did turn over and idle but it did not sound good. now i can't get it to even stay at a idle. i need ideas for thing to check. please help me.
i am pretty confident in the timing plus it kind of runs for a bit but wont idle or rev up very much though. (or would it still run but sound like ****?)
sorry for the poor quality descriptions and questions. this is my first motor i have put together. please keep the ideas coming though

Wiki has a nice little animation showing the four-stroke process. I'm sure everyone here will agree that you REALLY should read a bit about how a motor works before you go any further with your project. You should find more informative articles here at HT, on Google and Wiki about ignition timing, valve timing and other engine processes as well.

ok theirs 360 degrees of time basically if timing is correct the exhaust and intake will be on the same stroke, its really no big deal if u get it now but if u keep running it like that u could bend a valve or something... theirs not much clearance between the head and the pistons
long story short, you are 180 degrees out of time, which means the block is on the intake stroke and the head is on the exhaust stroke (or vice versa), so you just take the timing belt off and turn the crank around one full rotation and put it back into time... its easy as hell, it should fire rite up.

that is a nice little animation you found there. still not sure what you are talking about the block having a intake stroke... the head yes but not the block. but the cams where out a few teeth and she runs mint now thanks for the help.
They aren't supposed to be. If the intake valve and the exhaust valve were both open when the piston goes down then the piston would pull exhaust gasses into the cylinder.
Heres a list of things you need to check.
1 are your plug wires right? from Timing belt to Dizzy.
4321
on the dizzy
3 4
1 2
2 if that didnt help Pull Sparkplug wire 1 and put a Screwdrive in it, hold for the tip of the wire and touch the screw driver to a valve cover nut. Does it spark? if not then the problem could be a Wire, Coil or Dizzy.
3 Crank your motor to TDC remove the dizzy cap, is the metal piece of the rotator button pointed to number one piston?
4 is the motor in time? Are your UP stamps up during TDC?
