Default AEM short ram

I just got my AEM short ram. The instructions sy to disconnect the water hose that runs from the throttle body to that intake manifold. Then after the new intake is installed, to connect the hose again using a new hose and clamps supplied with the kit. Is this really necessary? The hose isn't part of the intake tube.

Not 100% necessary but it's better than the stock setup. Looks cleaner and conducts less heat.

Is it possible a short ram would benefit better than a CAI for torque at least ? which us Vtecs lack?
