HELP! A bizarre beeping from CRX...
Last night, on my way home from work, my CRX started to talk back to me...
I was driving along and all of a sudden it started beeping at me. You know the sound your car makes when your door is open and the keys are in the ignition? The constant beep, beep, beep. Well, that is what sound the car starting making. Only no doors were open and the beeping was inconsistent. It wasn't a constant beeping at all, very random. It happened again this morning on my way to work, so now I am looking for help!
Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? My damn car is now possessed!
Is there a fuse or anything I can pull that will kill the beeping the car makes when the door is open and the keys are in the ignition? I would like to see if that stops this noise.
Exorcists, do your thing!

did you pop your seatbelt off by chance... My old std hatch beeped like crazy if i was driving and i or my passenger would unbuckle their seat belt. Could be something wrong with the contacts in the seat belt switch on the seats, might just need cleaned out...just my 2 cents
It didnt seem to matter if my seat belt was clicked in or not. I tested it with the car on in the garage, car off but keys in the ignition and with or without the seat belt in use. Like I mentioned, the beeping is very random, no pattern to it. It does it's own thing and it's driving me bonkers! I want to hear the sound of the JRSC, not a damn beep, beep, beep!
If it is the relay, how can I test or verify this?

I had a $1k less to spend or I might have! I am somewhat surprised no one has offered you anything for the car, but to be honest, I see it selling for closer to $3k with the problems it has. Unless you find someone stuck on the idea of a BAR'd CRX, you might have to let it go for less than you'd like. Regardless, cool car. It did catch my attention when I was looking, but ultimately, I wanted a clean, silver CRX Si to work with. The fact that this car has a 10psi JRSC setup is just an added bonus for me.
Dude the exact thing kept happening to me and I was like "what the hell?" Is your gas tank close to empty? Cause mine was when it happened to me and when I filled it up it stopped the beeping. I'm not sure if it's a gas low warning beep or if it was just a coincidence that it stopped after I put more gas in it lol.

Can anyone tell me if there is a fuse I can pull to kill the beeping the car makes when a door is open and the keys are in the ignition?
Thanks!

check your horn fuse, a couple of years ago in my 89 CRX Si my horn was broke. When you turned the wheel to the right or left a certain distance it would honk. So I pulled the horn fuse. Then whenever I would hit the brake the seatbelt alarm would go off but only when I hit the brakes. Its worth a try.
This morning, it only beeped at me twice and I tracked the noise to the area by the rear view mirror. Once I get home tonight, I am going to pull the cover and see if I can disable the speaker.
yeah just open that cover and unplug the plug inside.
there's another beeper on the ignition, pull the covers off the steering column and stick your keys in the ignition with the door open, it should start beeping, find the beeper and unplug.
btw is your dome light flashing off and on when this happens? make sure the dome light switch is in the middle. If so you door sensor is to blame, the rubber cover may have fallen off or you might have a bad ground.

I did not notice if the dome light was flashing, but I do not think I had the switch in the middle. I will put it in the middle and check next time it happens. On a side not about the doors, I did notice they need to be slammed to be closed all the way. If you dont slam them, they will not close all the way. So, I suppose it is possible something related to that is causing the beeping.
Thanks again,

Like HondaPartsHero advised,
Check your fuse for the horn/brake lights under the hood..
Chances are you don't have any brake lights either..
And that's why it beeps..To warn you of a hazardous situation..

^ It may be the door trigger mechanism or the seatbelt chime. Try to unplug the beeper in the rearview mirror (seatbelt chime), and if it still does it. it is most likely the door trigger.
The door triggers can make a poor contact and it will chime like the door is open. Be careful because if this is the case, and the car senses the door is open, it can drain your battery slowly overnight.
The door trigger is a small black L shaped plastic thing in the door jam under the striker latch. The wire going to it is Green/Red and when the door is open, it will test as a ground. When the door is closed it should not see ground.

My troubleshooting took a dump on me last night... After work, I got to the car and was prepared and waiting for the noise to happen again and it never did. This morning, same thing, no noise! Either the gremlins went away or it's a very intermittent problem. I'll try all the suggested things if/when it happens again.
Thanks again for all your help everyone. I'm 99% sure the problem will happen again at the most inconvenient time...

HAHA and i thought i was the only one with this anoyingly harmless beeping(R2D2?) i too tried to tape up my door jam thingies and it still does it... although mine never does it randomly, instead it does it when i hit a bump. i am still playing around with this but what i am thinking is to remove the door jam things and ground them out so i can figure out which door is doing it... our cars are getting old and it could be something as simple as the hinges getting old and the door moving around abit(like when i hit a bump?) IDK but if i get mine solved i will post what the solution was....
goodluck with the fix...

Okay zig your problem definately lies with the dome light sensor pictured above. and its either missing the rubber cover making it so that the sensor isnt getting pushed in all the way and as you hit bumps the sensor gets pushed in and out. or you have a bad ground and the bumps are causing the it to short out off and on. the sensor itself could also be corroded.
Or like JOE-BD0 mentioned it could be the latch mechanism itself, which is in the door, its not the sensor on the body.
lol, jason you should have just emailed me!
you need to clean the door latch sensors. (whats pictured above, the black L bracket springy thingy) the dome lights flashing on is another obvious sign. the sensors are just corroded enough that any slight movement or shift of weight from the doors sets it off. unscrew the sensor, just 1 phillips head screw, and scrape off some of the corrosion. i guarantee youll see it and know what i mean.
and just take that damn beeper out of the rear view mirror. disconnect it completely inside. no need for that.

mine actually did the same thing when the brake light fuse was out but while it would make that noise and the seat belt light started flashing put a new fuse in it and it never did it again.
Let's bring this thread back. Mines doing the same thing but the thing is that I installed JDM doors and installed some seatbelts to the pillar. I get a beeping sound and a seat belt flashing light on my dash. Heeeelllp.
What a relief to finally find someone else who is having this problem! I bought a 1990 CRX last fall when my faithful car was totaled. Shortly afterwards, I experienced the dreaded "door open" light an seatbelt chime while driving. No one could understand how to fix it and I ended up pulling the chime out. A couple months ago, after a hard rain, the driver's door began clicking again, as though it was not making contact, and the lights began flashing randomly. click, flash, off, click, flash off. I paid no attention to it other than the mild annoyance of bright red lights flashing at night in my face. Today however my battery is dead. So I have to do something different.
I don't know a lot about working on cars, but my nephew said he would help me. I'm pretty sure, based on the thread, that it's the door latch. Would it hurt to just disconnect those wires?
