Default LS vs. d16a6 into 91 EF std.

Have a 91 civic std with a 4 speed. been doing some motor research and not only that but the stock motor in this car sucks. No acceleration and DPFI.
Im going to do the MPFI swap, but after that what motor would be easier cheaper, easier and more reliable.

b18a1 LS Swap with a 91 speed tranny or just get a d16a6 with a 91si 5 speed tranny.
HElP !! I swear the d15 is about to blow uuuuuuppppppp!!

get a b18a1. Way better and will hold up better than a D series. Also with a B series if you ever want more power you can purchase a vtec head.

get a d16z6 or d16y8 and convert to obd1. Would still be cheaper than an ls because u have to buy mounts an make or buy shift linkage for that.

And after he gets sick of that little d. and wants more power he'll be switching to a bseries any way. save the time, save the money. just go with something bigger and do it the first time.

or another cheap route get D16Y7 non-vtec, still need 90-91 civic SI intake manifold, PM6 ECU and 90-91 civic SI tranny.

If you go with a b series you will need to change the hubs on the std model they are smaller than the dx ex lx si. You can use any of the hubs from those cars or a da integra

the a6 is a beast for sure but if your looking for more power swaping in a 108hp d16 might not be satisfing

You missed the point he was trying to make.

If you spend the money on a b-swap you spend MORE money boosting it. He was saying for the cost of a b-swap to build a little turbo setup and have 180whp with 170 wtq to go along with it.

180whp/170wtq d16 > b16, b18a/b/c.... all day, everyday.

But like I said above, you totally missed the point he was trying to make.

Thanks for all the input. Im thinking going LS from a 88-91 Integra right. I thought this was a direct bolt in other than the throttle cable and going MPFI first.
Would you still go with the 88-91 si 5 speed tranny or what ?

si trans FTMFW!!! short as *** gearing but i LOVE it. ripped through gears so quick. made my 90 hp d15 feel much more powerful. scared the crap out of my friends too. they'd hop in thinking eh it's going to be slow. then i threw them into the back of the seat.

oh and i'll be doing what 4dref said to do. a6 mini me turbo ftw!

Well, first I was talking about how a stock turbo D would fare well in price when compared to a complete B swap.

I'd like to see your B turbo argument fleshed out a bit more with $ comparisons.
You can build a D with Vitara pistons for dirt cheap and push big powa' numbers.
How much does it cost to get a B series to do the same?
How many Vitara D blocks can you buy with the same money it costs to build just one B motor?

Ok so heres the decision: let me know whats up and who all has this swap done ?
Lets see some pics !
I have a 91 Civic Std: d15b2 dpfi-4 speed
Swapping In:
DPFI to MPFI conversion
(88-91) b18A1 Integra LS Motor: Found one local on C.list for $250 with 125,000miles
(88-91) Civic Si 5 Speed Transmission
ECU from (88-91) Integra
-Are the hubs needed from either the (88-91) Integra or Civic DX-SI ?
-Only need to do what on the DPFI to MPFI swap only the resistor box ?
Is the b18 LS a direct bolt in, dont have much money to do the swap and my stock d15 is about DONE with. tried to go up a decent hill today to get into the driveway at work and almost shut off. Engine has NO POWER left all... Need to know a very cheap repalcement swap and is the (88-91 Integra motor the ticket) ?
Thanks

can't use a d series on a b18 noob. You need a cable b series transmission if you want to avoid the complete conversion or the use of a kit.

jus did an ls swap in my 91 std.
u will need:ef b series shift linkage(or cut n weld da linkage),da axles,da or dx/si/ex hubs/spindles,u need a da throttle body cable,da ecu,ef b series mounts,cant run a d series tranny on a bseries engind bud,resistor box(assuming u stay obd0), dpfi-mpfi ,mpfi fuel line,u need to get injector plugs,thats all i can remember for now

a couple of links that helped me

Wrong, youre looking for an ls from a 90-93 to bolt up to your b-series. not 88 or 89 cause those are 1st gen integras with d16's. Since youre new to honda's and building (so it seems) you shouldnt jump up to too much power youre not used to. save yourself some money and get a single cam vtec. its perfect for your tiny light car. you wont regret it and you can drive the **** out of a d-series all day and night.
