Like the title says? I bought a 96 4dr EX with a seized motor(rod bearing cap fell off and wedged below piston and top of crank) and could not source another D16Y8 so I purchased a sohc zc. What a pain in the ***! In order to make the crank sensor work I needed to swap both front and rear cover(oil pump etc...) and use the cast alu pan which is all fine. Oh and now it has 2 dipsticks lol.

So anyways I got it up and running the other night and the bottom end is super noisey. I can tell it has either a loose rod or main bearing and is about to let go. When I rev above 3k is really starts rattling (kinda sounds like a diesel!).

My question is what bearings do I use for the rods and mains? Are they obd-1 D15 sizes? I'm gonna pull it back out this weekend and order bearings Monday. BTW the block is stamped "ZC"

ps I might as well order rings since I'll have the rods out. Same as D15?

EDIT; one more thing. Should I buy an adj cam gear? When the t-belt went on it was always halfway in between a tooth. This is not a performance build so dont tell me to swap in a B16 like last time I was looking for a used Y8.

WTF ok y downgrade to an old zc sohc motor. the d16y8 motor is everywhere just maybe not in great falls area.. i guess. do more searching outside of ur state, scrap that zc sohc its not even worth fixing. get another sohc vtec or b series ls motor

 

yeah I would like to buy another Y8 block! Nobody sells them! They all sell the D15b vtec and most of them are OBD-1. I've checked multilple engine suppliers(Hmotors does not even list a obd-2 vtec).
