Swap options for a EF Wagon?

Thinking about buying a 86 Wagon AWD Just wanted to see what options for the Future. I know of a few but also what would be the easiest.

ok so now im lookin at a 91 and its not an EF its an EE my bad

If you want to keep the AWD then your choices are limited to d-series -- in fact boosting the stock d16a6 is probably the best bet. If you don't care about the AWD, you have all the options of a regular EF/ED.

Down Time
Budget
Turbo vs. N/A
Driveability
Ditching your stock drivetrain to go with a B/H/K series...

and your know-how with swaps
