i attempted to prime my fully built 14 month money pit of a type r today and i disabled the ignition and did about 3 intervals of 10 seconds of engine cranking and stopped for the night at the sight of no movement on the oil pressure gauge or dummy light goin off.

brand new pump. blocked oil squirters. no oil made it to the oil filter after this.

using straight 30w and its 40 degrees in my garage so i know that will add to cranking time.

HOW LONG DOES IT NORMALLY TAKE TO SEE OIL PRESSURE ON A NEW ENGINE?

shouldnt take that long. but you should prime the filter before putting it in.

 

how long is not long?

ill put oil in the filter.

 

pull the spark plugs out so the engine will crank over faster. if the dummy light does not go out you may have a problem.

i usually just fill the oil filter and fire it up with no priming....take about 3-4 seconds to fully build oil pressure.

 

Agreed, Generally it will be primmed in a few seconds.

Yeah you must take the spark plugs out or it could take a while if ever

 

I went through the same with my laskey built b16, but on the second start I took the plugs out and thel light went off and gauge started reading.

 

i've already cranked over the car. as soon as it fired turn the car right off. it will have oil pres then. you wont hurt anything by doing this.
