How do i fix my Door from "Popping?"
like the title says, im tired of hearing my doors make that popping sound every time i open them all the way. i was thinking of just welding the part that pops, but will that fix it? or will it just cause me more problems? i possibly be getting the rear seat for my crx and i know that it will require some welding, so i was thinking of fixing the door pop at the same time so as to now waste my co-workers time and do it all at once. any ideas?
my rex does it too, the previous owner tried welding it but did a horrible job, so now i gotta fix the big bubble weld mess on there...just try to get a good bead on it...
I know what noise you're referring to. The part making the noise is the detent rod.
I dont know what you could do to make it quiet. but if you're really curious take it apart to see how it works. then you might be able to modify it, but be carefull, dont open your door too far or you could dent it, because without the detent rod theres nothing limiting the swing of the door, I would guess the noise is due to the design of this rod
surely you have more pressing squeaks and noises to worry about dont you

Yeh just have it welded i had that issue with a blue civic i had dont know how it happens must of over extended the door.. Weld on the bottom so its not seen just pull it out and make sure its in place buy a CH welder from walmart and go to work make sure you are on there.. Those welders do pretty good work for what they are and price mig welder.. flux core wire.. no poping after i welded it and is still solid.. Oh also there is a foam inside that chanel inside the chassis you will not see it but there is foam inside there mine caught on fire.. So take it out threw the side or just keep some water handy..

I have this problem on my cord...Im thinking about taping it with good quality electrical tape...dont know if anyone has tried this but thought it was worth a try and may last a few months?
someone did the same to mine as what dxhatchy said. there's a giant blob of nasty looking weld all around the detent rod. it seemed to work until a month or so after i bought it when the weld started coming lose. i think what causes it is the metal on the door jamb where it's attached flexes when you open the door, like the rod can't move freely enough or something. just a guess though.
yes i did its about 150$ and does a pretty good job of welding if you know how to use it.. I have made down pipes and lots of things with it blue CH welder wire..
Oh and that is nasty welding he must of been doing it blind folded that should of been one single weld and it should of held wow some people are morons.. My cnc teacher used to call that bird ****..

I can't believe someone woke up one day and thought this was a good idea. My driver side pops, always has... but I wont make the mistake from above. Good luck on getting that cleaned up man.
it looks like the part is discontinued.
and i'm not sure welding it will do anything (unless it actually is broken/breaking off), because my door makes the noise but the stopper/ detent rod is attached perfectly fine. I'm guessing the noise is due to slop in the pin at the chassis end or the inner pivot point, which is probably some riveted pin.
btw my passenger side door is silent. maybe a passenger side stopper could be swapped into the driver side, since you might have to go to the junkyard (if you want to replace the stopper) that might be the best option. and you should be able to listen to it before you unbolt an remove it.

i like it the noise because what if thats what you herd out side at 4:00AM and it woke you up to the popping sound and your cars saved im just saying what if???
Now instead of welding you could do it a dfferent way.
1. Detach detent rod from door (little pin).
2. Open door fully.
3. Drill two small holes (one top, one bottom of little U bracket in the frame)
4. get rivet gun and attach bracket with two rivets (one top, one bottom)
5. reattach detent rod to bracket with pin

pics please? i was thinking of taking a square of some kind of steel, notching it to fit around the rod and welding it on for that cleaprofessional fixed look
