Which oil is best for k20? Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil 1 etc...
yeah, i swear by amsoil.. but its all on who ya talk to i guess.. i use it in my snomobile as well. and what he said i would use 5-30 unless your starting it up in zero degree weather go with 0-30 i guess.
Amsoil says the fully synthetic 0W30 replaces the 5W30 and the 10W30....Just stating what the site says, I have been useing Amsoil for over 3 years now. Just wondering if any one else has used it in a K-motor.
yeap i do.! have been running it for almost 50k miles now.. no complaints i use the 5-30 and i have a friend who uses it in his mildly built typeS.. he uses the 5-30 as well.. it really shouldnt matter much.. we even ran the 10-30 last summer cause are local dealer only had that and it was mid sumer hottness outside..! ill be using it for another hard 10k+ miles this summer.
i dont want this to become a thread about oil weight. but 0w should not be running 8k rpms. you should wait till the engine gets to operating temps(the second number "30") before running it hard like that.
5W-30--> 5 suffixed with the letter W, designating their "winter" (not "weight") or cold-start viscosity, at lower temperature. The number 30 comes with or without a W, depending on whether it is being used to denote a cold or hot viscosity grade

I rock the Eneos oil and I love it. Doesn't have as high as a burn off rate as the Mobil 1 stuff does. I have never used Amsoil but it is so expensive and such a pain to get a hold of.
Eneos is pretty decent in price for me and it holds up really well.
If you are curious check out the tests they have online. Try to find a non-biased test though.

I know someone has an oil thread that is recent, but I figured I would start this one and see what people have to say. Which oil do you think is the best for k20? I am coming up on an oil change soon and was wondering which would be good. Filters as well.
I use either mobil 1 or rotella t full synth 15-30w in my bike (non energy conserving) and have found both brands to be excellent. I have never used a special oil like royal purple or amsoil. What makes them better than full synth?
GO!!!!!!

Oil is going to start a preference war. Some say Mobil 1 isn't a true synthetic and blablabla.
Royal Purple has always been a top notch extreme performance oil. I though am running the new Castrol Edge.
I've always been a Castrol Man. My first car was a BMW and all BMW uses is Castrol, if it's good enough for luxury machines it's good enough for a Honda!
As far as filters, I run the JDM Hamp oil filters. My buddy and I went in together and bought a ton of them for cheap.

Id rather run synthetic in this car for good. I figure this motor is a lot like my bike motor: high revving with lots of stress. I have seen the studies showing how conventional oils break down faster under those kinds of conditions.
Ive been using Amsoil and i trust them. Theyre considered pretty good in synthetics and my car runs smoothly. I drive a 1990 240sx however. I use 10w-30 as the weather here doesnt get too cold. Coldest is around 50 degrees F in winter.
Mobil 1 5w30 with oem filter for me.I've also heard good things about amsoil but good luck finding a place that sells it.
ive been switching different oils, right now im using castrol edge with k&n filter it works fine to me too but maybe my next oil change will be valvoline
well i was watching this video its a race of k20 with dc5-r ep3-r and euro-r and the drift king (tsuchiya) said valvoline is good for engines,
well im still doing my researcher

nice choices guys but i use valvoline 5w-30 oil with the valvoline oil filter and my old 2003 rsx type-s and had about 265,000 miles on my k20 with little maintenance, changed the chain and the alternator belt at around 160k and works fine with me. I bought another 2003 rsx type-s and using the same method. I think its a personal choice when it comes to oil. But hey whatever you think lol. The reason why I get valvoline oil is because my friend hooks me up with free oil filters!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mobil1 5w-30 with a fram filter, so easy to get off.
I have always been a Mobil1 guy. Put it in my CRXs, del sol, boosted d16 civic. I tried royal purple in the DC5 last summer and for some reason I burned through it super fast. Prob because I am always revving high. One day going around a corner vtec wouldnt engauge. Checked my oil and not good... Stuck with Mobil1 ever since.

I usually use Valvoline 5w-30 but honestly, I don't know that I've ever noticed a difference between what oil I would use. I just make sure to change it every 3k miles and I don't beat the crap out of my car. My oil is always full and comes out pretty clean.
why is there two oil threads going at the same time?
i use mobil 1 10w30 synthetic or Castrol Edge synthetic 10w30....dont care about the filter honestly, i haven't been able to see a difference with the ones i have used.....either HOP, Federated High Perfromance, Royal purple....whatev...
