Long story short. I'm going back to Honda as my DD. It's like coming home, I guess. I think it's a go to buy a 10 Accord since Honda just offered 1.9% for 60 months.

V6 or I4?

- The new Accord is a porker. Do you think I4 will be underpowerd?

- I know what the EPA numbers are. What is the real numbers for the V6 in mostly city? On my 06 EX I4, I was a bit disappointed in the MPG. The Accord just keeps on getting bigger.

- My car will never see highway unless I make an effort. That's 98% of the time. Will V6 be a waste?

- I'm not power hungry, but I just don't like the front bumper on the non-V6, where the fog light would be. I can install fog lights on a I4. Does anyone have a full frontal and side pics of OEM fog lights?

 

The i4 is under powered to me... but it's good enough for a daily. if you at all like acceleration you will miss the v6, mileage might be around mid twenty miles per gallon with the v6.

I know plenty of folks that love there i4 but at about 3500lbs, it's a porker. with the v6 manual it's a 5 sec 0-60 car

 

what was your mpg in the '06 I-4? chances are it will be worse with the 2010 I-4, as documented on CR. and why did you get rid of the '06? i love my '04 ex 5-manual I-4 and get great mpg (29-30 mpg during winter) with my 60/40 mix city/hwy. the 7th gen is a great car imo. i don't think it evolved much as the 8th gen. still, the accord is a great car regardless of the generation. i don't think the difference in city gas mileage between the I-4 and V6 will be that great. CR had a difference of 2mpg overall in their testing, 23mpg for the I-4, 21 for the V6. My guess is you could expect about that, perhaps less, given your 98% city driving.

now i know hyundai has neither the track record nor the pedigree of Honda, but their genesis sedan has garnered many favorable reviews, and is highest rated on CR in the upscale category. i,personally, would wait to see how it holds up with reliability and resale, but if it came heavy with incentives i might have to take a look.

My estimates were about 23-25MPG in my "mix" city driving. I don't recall the EPA numbers now, but I guess it's pretty normal. I should note that the "disappointment" part is only because I came from years of Civics where my actual were better than EPA numbers (without really trying), so I was used to that.

My 06 was a leased car. At the time, I own three cars, so I did not keep it. I perhaps should have in retrospect. To own it would only have cost me $13.5K at the time.

Now I need to spend........?

I have an 03 V6, and it has spoiled me. I would have a hard time going back to a 4 cylinder Accord again. It's not just about the extra power. The V6 runs smoother and quieter than the 4 cyl. even when just cruising around town. Many I4 owners have been complaining that the I4 vibrates at stop signs and red lights. No vibration at any time, with the V6. I was willing to pay the extra, and sacrifice 2mpg for all that smoothness (not to mention power).

 

Dude... I'd get a Honda Van and drop it on Volks asap

Honda did give them away at one time. I got lucky, paid $28,800+TTL. MSRP was $36K+. This was June 09 when everyone said the auto world was going to fall a part. The dealer only made about ~$200 based on invoice and all holdbacks.

This Accord will be for me. I've been on a revolving door of (new) car, that's just not really me. That's why I'm going "all out" for me this time for the long term (I hope). But I still got to be family man first cause we do switch cars and kids to carry.

 

I have the 2009 I4 sedan, it's fine for me. I would have bought the V6; but, needed the slightly better gas milage as I drive a lot of miles.

I do feel the V6 looks better with the OEM foglights (different than ones made for the I4), etc.

At first I considered adding the Honda foglights until I saw someone else's I4 with the added on OEM fog lights (I4 don't come with the fogs as standard equipment). It did not look good at all in person, they do not appear flush to the bumper when I saw it. They look "added" on.

 

I'd go for the four cylinder. Cheaper on fuel and maintenance.

EX-L V6

 

Very nice. Most people, who buy the 4 cylinder, probably don't even test drive a V6. I think if they would, many of them wouldn't go back.

 

there u go. i say if u can spend the extra few grand, why not get the v6. almost the same mpg anyways.

 

Quick Review - I was sort of disappointed with the V6. Not that it's not fast or powerful, but I was expecting a bit more acceleration. Ok, Motor Trend clock a V6 auto sedan at 6.5 sec from 0-60. That's fast. But under normal DD, the car moves very good, but not like a pocket rocket I was expecting. I guess that's the result of electronics (gear to MPG, unless one jump on the gas), and the heavy body weight.

One of my dream cars from the past was the G1 Acura Legend. MSPR was $27K back in the late 80s. I got the 1989 Integra RS for $13.8K, and one day I will......This Accord does remind me of the old Legend. It's a Honda with 24V V6, leather, and big. But the Accord IMO, did not have the "sprit" of the Legend. Don't get me wrong, it is every way a better car. Maybe I just come to expect more and the Accord did not suprise me. That's a good thing I think.

Back on subject. I'm glad that I got the V6. If DD feels "good" with the V6, I think I would have been disappointed with the I4's performance (with G8's growth in size and weight).

I just have to change my mind that Accord is a full size car.

 

The VCM on the J Motor 5AT makes a difference, and people like Jeff Palmer swear there's a big difference in the power between the 5AT VCM and the 6-6.

I don't know about all that because I never owned one, but I can conceive of how they'd set up VCM to work with the 5AT to maximise the fuel mileage.

I hope you're not disappointed and like the car for the long haul.

i have a 2008 I4 and i love it. i drove the v6 and it was a great car i liked it a lot. i ended up going with the I4 because one i got a great deal on it 18,500 for the EX model. it doesn't have the best acceleration but i noticed when you turn off the VSA you get a little better rev when you need it and its a lot more responsive. The VSA is great technology especially in the winter it keeps the tires moving but not spinning like crazy. i would suggest driving one and turning the VSA off and see how you like it.
