2002 Honda Civic 1.7 Diesel 3dr
Following on from my previous post I have purchased a OBD scanner for my Civic and can confirm it does work
Two faults were found, 1401 & 1237. I think these relate to the EGR valve, would anyone be able to confirm this for me please?
Can the EGR valve be removed cleaned and refitted, I have read that they become clogged up with a "sooty carbon gunk" or will it have to be replaced?
Are non genuine parts available or must I dig deep and get one off Honda?
Any info would be gratefully recieved

You can take of the EGR valve and clean it. I suggest getting a new gasket for it though. Use carbon cleaning and I often use a plumber brush to clean the piping as that also builds with carbon.
Check around with places like autozone, or advance auto, o'rielly and see if they offer an EGR valve for your car. An after market part such as this will not hurt anything and save you money from the dealership costs.
Also, this thread is in the wrong section.

Considering he's driving a Civic DIESEL, I'm pretty confident he is overseas.
lol burn!

Good news
I took the EGR valve off at the weekend, was badly coked up, gave it a good clean out and soaked it overnight in Carb cleaner, put it all back together and problem gone, engine light out
