worth the price for an ep3?
So I found a 02 si ep3 w/ about 70k miles, but its a salvaged title from an accident in the rear quarter panel. Its been fixed and the seller is asking for about 7,000. What do you guys think? What should i look out for in terms of problems happening in the area of accident, or any known maintenance issues occuring around 70k. anything you guys can let me know from your experience would help a lot. Trying to pick up my first ep3!
Btw my name is phil, pleased to join the forums.

my advice is dont rush yourself getting a salvage one theres a bunch of ep3 out there with same price clean title
Agreed ^^
Where are you from? If you wouldn't mind traveling for a car, it might be a good idea to look in other areas of the country where prices would be a little better. The average I see around my area, which tends to be a little high compared to most is about $8k for a clean, stock, clean title EP3.

Over priced should be about 4300-5300. Dont buy it. Like others said, you can easily pick one up for that price with a clean title. Dont let the seller fool you hes asking way to much $. Also, salvage titles are fine as long as you know what to stay away from. Like fire. LOL

7k seems kind of steep for an EP especially with a salvaged title. You just have to be patient and don't fall for the first one you see.Heck, it took me 6 months to find mine.
Putting that $7000 price tag into perspective.
I just picked up an 02 type S with 105K for just a tad under $6500. It has a check engine light. One code for the primary O2 sensor....I can get a new one for under $200. And yea it has a clean title to boot.
Also, at 99K it just had water pump, tensioner and a new oem timing chain done.

hey guys, thanks for the input. Yeaa , you guys are right. I just gotta be patient and wait to see one pop up for a good deal. Im located in SF, CA , but its hard to come by ep3s on craigslist without a rape price ya know..?
Then buy one out of state. The price of a one way plane ticket is probably 150 bucks or so to go to one of like 4 surrounding states?
Obviously don't do this without a full collage of pictures that pretty much guarantee it is a screaming deal without wasting your time.
You could potentially save A LOT of money that way.

agree with ephatch.com for deals. I live in NE and bought mine in OH. You gotta do what you gotta do. Locally here though if you don't mind driving, there are a couple eps (white, black) around the 6k range clean title. Miles are a little up there 120,xxx i think but Im not sure if you intend to swap or stock. I love my ep and its reliable and has had only minor issues (eld light $22, seat belt light FREE at honda,) Welcome to the family when you get one.
Yea I never really seriously thought about getting one interstate before... until now. If i do get one , I plan on getting one probably in Oregon. Ive searched theyre classifieds and they have WAYYY cleaner and cheaper cars. If i were to buy one, what are some things i should look out for, problem wise with ep3s? Also would there be any members in OR willing to come with me to check out a car if the time comes? Btw, thanks for the suggestions
You just need to look for when buying a used car, Carfax, if its been crashed and drive it. See if its been painted. Maybe you can take it to a mechanic, before you buy it.
dude jsut wait for the right one .... i just picked up a type s for 7500 clean title with 80k on it plus aspec lips most people would say got lucky but i say i was really hardheaded and stick to my budget and plan. Salvage is not bad but if u plann on selling the car dont get salvage. most people down on salvage but in reality salvage isnt all that bad. just gotta know what really happened. and what was wrong fixxed
let's clear up the obvious here:
salvage title = NO BUY!
if and when you do happen to find the si you want, merely looking at the carfax report won't be assuring enough of a good condition vehicle. you gotta realize that the information that goes onto that report is only what people want to report (meaning, they could fail to mention underlying issues). my point is: don't rely on just the carfax.
your best bet? get it professionally inspected. there are a handful of companies out there that offer this service, and it'll give you some peace of mind with the car you're potentially buying. my recommendation would be to check out AiM Mobile Inspections (I used them for my Mazda 3 over the summer). just spreading the good word! hope that helps.

I drove 7 hours to pay a little more than 10k for a MINT white 05 w/42K, a bit much yes but I got exactly what I wanted with no surprises. A cheap car will cost you in the end almost every time.
i bought my 2002 ep3 6 months ago with 79,000 miles for 6500$ because it had blown struts and a dent on the hood. i bought a used low milage set of struts from someone on ephatch for 100$. problem solved.
