Default gutted stock cat vs. carsound cat

ive seen responses by other H-T members that gutting out the stock catalytic converter will create a bottleneck effect in the exhaust. i currently have a 2.5in exhaust. i use a gutted cat when i race (all the honeycomb and lining was taken out). the thing is... im wondering if anyone has proof that gutting the cat will result in power loss because of the uneven flow OR if getting a high flow cat, such as a carsound cat, would benefit me more. i need a freeflowing exhaust and im just curious if the high flow cat (carsound) would net me some horsepower, compared to the gutted cat.

If you are thinking of gutting the stock cat rather than getting a Carsound cat. I would not recomend it. Yes the gutted cat will flow better than a non gutted stock cat, but the size of the stock cat is smaller than the 2.5 exhaust that you have now. This is where the bottle neck comes from, its not from a gutted or not gutted cat. What matters is the size. I sugest that you get your self a 2.5 carsound cat.

Sorry dont have any Dyno sheets.
