Honda Accord 1994 EX Upper Timing Belt Cover
Techs,
I have Honda Accord 1994 EX Coupe bought it at 169K now 196K but still driving like a Champ when I bought did not get any repair/Maintenance History.
Now getting worried about the Timing Belt as did not have any previous record is there any possible way to pull up the upper Timing Belt cover to see the condition of the Belt before going for that Major work.
So far I have done Front Brake Pads, Full tune up, Bypass, Heater Core and Radiator Hoses.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
FS

I would replace it, but to answer your question you need to take the valve cover off to do this. Is it the 4cyl or the V6?
Yeah...the valve cover has to come off to remove the upper timing belt cover (easy to do). The alternator belt may or may not be in the way as well. However, even with it off, you'll only be able to see the back of the timing belt, and maybe with a flashlight, just a little bit of the contact surface (the majority of the belt you'll be able to see will be in contact with the cam shaft gear). Take a look through the tutorial in the FAQs for some pics.
Assuming the car had it's belts/water pump replaced around 100k like it was supposed to, you're due for another change. In my opinion, better safe than sorry with this one.

It was'nt that hard only worst part was to find the leaking place for the coolant which was actually heater core hose.
Just remove air intake and couple of vaccum hoses in your way then you can easily replace it if you need pictures please let me know.

meandino Its a 4 cylinder but do I have to replace the valve cover Gasket also if I open it up for pulling the upper T/B cover off.
I am planning to do the T/B in 2 months so was wondering if I could be able to visually inspect the T/B.
