1st Gen CRX Engine Swap Questions Help!
This guy emailed me about some swap questions for his 86 CRX. I told him that he should look into a B16A or something like that. Here is what he said. If you can answer some of these questions that would be good because I dont know. Any oppinions would also be appriciated aswell.
Thanks

I hate bothering you like this since my experience is dealing with paint & body and not mechanics. I'm really a novice when it comes to engine customization. I've got a good mechanic that's helped me with engine swapping but only on Domestices. He likes my CRX project but he's an Muscle Car man with alot of experince in engine swapping. He wants to create a true hybrid. A CRX with an muscle car engine in it. I have a cousin with a 2001 Ford ZX2 with 430 Hp engine. My cousin e-mailed me what he's got so far. He list it like this:
" 9.7:1 COMPRESSION, HYDRAULIC LIFTER CAMSHAFT WITH 232 INT AND 240 EXT DURATION 566 INT AND 576 EXT LIFT, GT40 ALUMINUM HEADS, GT40 DRIVE TRAIN, ROLLER ROCKER AND "VICTOR JR" SINGLE PLANE INTAKE."
I've gone with him to street races(legal and illegal) and seen him blow the doors off many hi-perfomance imports. I like that idea because it's not something people are used to seeing. And it would show that American muscle isn't dying out but evolving into something else. What I don't like about that is I wouldn't be able to really dress up or upgrade the engine like I could with a Japanese Engine. But I want at least 300 ponies under the hood. And the B16 ranges from 170-180 hp. I'm stuck. I want to eventually make this into a show car, but I feel like a growing number of tuners do. "You can talk the talk. But can you walk the walk?" So my questions for you today are:
In engine selection what factors do I really need to consider? I know the one of the biggest is engine size.
I also want to know that if I do go with a B16, what sort of mods can I still put on to increase Hp and where I would top off? (Turbocharger, headers, cold air intake, etc.)
Is there any other possible swap in the B series?
Are you for or against the "domestic engine/import car" hybrid idea?
If I'm bothering you please tell me. Thank you
P.S. What country are you from and what do you drive? (US Dollars? Bucks, man. Ex. 500 bucks)

this is really just my 2 cents, but b series is a good motor, its also new, so alot of of stuff that you do to it is, well, expensive, but you may not care about money. From what i've researched D series, rebuilt to performance specs, are pretty damn good, and i've been looking into it and for built internals, and putting a 6th gen D head (y7, y8) on a 4th gen D series, and rebuilding the head and such, you can make that bad boy ready for about 400-600 hp turbo style, though im having trouble finding tranny stuff, so i don't know about that. I also have a rt4wd tranny so the 2wd may have something out there. But something to consider.
p.s. im doing all the work myself so it does make it substancially cheaper, and im not too certain on how much all that would change. Just keep doing what you're doing and research.
