Icon2 P28 vtec wiring question -Help Please want vtec hooked up lol-

Okay so I got a 93 Honda civic hatch and I just rebuilt a D16y8 Block with a D16z6 Head. Now I want to hook up vtec let me tell you how my friend did it. Also it's a OBD1 P28 ECU.
He said that there's wires already ran in the plugs for vtec that go to the ecu that dont have pinouts in them so he spliced into the wire before the end of the plug and then the plug goes into the ecu. Can you do it like that? Just wana make sure, I dont wana fry my ECU.
Also if thats possible.., he ran the wire but didn't hook it up and cant find the paper for the wiring so does anyone know about this so I can connect the wires to my soilenoid and the oil pressure switch.

Please help me I wana have my vtec hooked up!
Thanks in advance.
