1st and 2nd Gear hard to go into???
I have a trany from a JDM B16 swap from my first build and it worked fine for awhile. After I through a quaife LSD in it, it was dyno time. After lots of 4th gear pulls, it put down 435hp on pump and 627hp on q16. Since then I have had a hell of a time getting into 1st and 2nd gear. I have to bounce it violently back and forth between 1st and 2nd to get it to go in to 1st, and the shift to second usually doesn't go unless there is some bouncing back and forth again. I am hoping that it's syncros. Any other suggestions???

It does not grind when it goes into gear. What am I looking for in regards to the shift linkage? It is the same as it has always been. I will check it out and see if anything looks out of the ordinary.
The linkage looks fine. I shifted into first and second by hand at the selector at the trany where it goes into the the case and it felt fine there. I am thinking that it is something internal and I really don't want to pull the trany and crack it open to see. I really don't know much about tranies. I wasn't sure if it may be a syncro or what.

i have a similar question but my trans is taken apart well the housing is off but when i try and shift it from the lil shifter piece thats on the tranny with a screw driver for some reason i couldnt get it into 5th and reverse im not sure if its harder to shift when the case is is off or what but when you shift it by hand by moving the gears it self it moves fine could the shift assembly inside the tranny get bent or get messed up and also can it be replaced
Did you have any grinding taking place while shifting from 1 to 2 or 2 into first? I have no grinding.
My shift linkage was cut and welded but i never used to have this problem. It is possible that the linkage got bent a tad while i had it out of the car but not too bad. I don't see how a slight bend would cause that problem.
When the car is off, it shifts smooth through all the gears too. So that kind of leads me to believe that it is internal. What do you think?

i found my problem it was 3-4 synchro sleeve sounds like a common problem i would check your synchro sleeve or shift fork check the clearences between the syncho sleeve and shift fork and if its off check the size of the fork it self if its within spec then its the sleeve
The shift linkage seems to be good so I will be pulling the trany this weekend to crack into it and further investigate. I will update you and post pictures
Well, hopefully I'll get the car put back together and running today. I hope this transmission shifts smoothly. I replaced the linkage bushings too.
I ran a 11.6 last night but the 1-2 shift is still a pain in the ***. Not real sure what else to do besides send it to a honda transmission specialty place like . . . . ?
Anyone have any recomendations???

Well, I have the same problem and everyone recomended switching out the motor oil I had in the transmision to penzoil synchromesh or honda mtf. So far I haven't had the chance to do it because the car has bigger problems non transmision related that will be fixed this week. What kind of transmision lubricant are you running?

I am using a clutch masters twin disc. I am thinking that I am going to send it to Howard at RLZ and let him tear it apart, figure it out, and repair/fix it. I used to run a clutch masters six puck clutch and never had any issues with the gearbox.
My tranny has started to grind when I slam it into second from first. As soon as I get my new daily driver I will pull the tranny and take pictures and post them. Man I hope that it is the 1-2 syncro. I did notice that after 4 runs at the track, the tranny got a little louder. It started to sound like my tranny in my STi.
If I don't slam it and try to conduct a normal shif, it feels like its locked out. it feels like it does when you are doing 40mph and try and put it into 1st gear, locked out. We'll see when I get in there.
