Default Clutch ridiculousness

Ok, i have a d15b1 motor that had a slipping clutch. I figured id get a new clutch for it and swap to a 5 speed from an si. I ordered the clutch and found another tranny. I took everything apart and had the flywheel resurfaced, and then went to put it back together and come to find out that the clutch was too big. I called the company and they said they would send me another one, and hopefully the right one if i could get measurements of it. I measured the one they sent to me across the center 8 3/8". The original that came with my motor was 7 7/8". When i gave the company the measurements they called exedy and they said that stock clutch's were supposed to be 8 3/8" across. I cant figure out the problem. I tried fitting my clutch onto a 95' Z6 and it was still to big. Anyone got any ideas or better measurements??

Ten years ago I had a '88 CRX Si and swaped in a '90 Si trans. I know those two years used different size clutch disks/flywheels and may have even been another size for the '89. I believe the metric measurements were something like 180mm for the '88 and maybe 200mm for the '90 Si. I believe there may have also been a different spline count of the imput shaft and thats why I could not interchange the flywheels. Anyways Its been a long time so my memory is not to fresh. Those were the good old days though, I had a Gude Bullfrog camshaft and a Jun zc lightweight flywheel along with I/H/E in my '88 Si Rex.

well after a lot of research and asking questions, i figured out that my motor is out of an 88'. I don't know what was up with my friends z6 but whatever. I called 1aauto and got them to send me an exedy clutch for an 88'. So im really hoping this works out.

OK, I am no expert at all but my old '88 CRX Si (sold it over 6 years ago) had a different spline count on the imput shaft of the trans than the '89-'91 years. This meant that when I swapped in a '91 Si trans I needed to use a '89-'91 clutch disk. Needing to use the later disk meant I also needed to use the later flywheel to match up to the disk. Remember I am not an expert as my memory is far from fresh (I went through this in '01). Hopefully someone else can also offer advise as mine may not be accurate. Hope it works out well!

Call Exedy ASAP and confirm the splint count of the different clutch disks. Then figure out if that spline count matches your new trans. You may need the newer disk/flywheel.

count the number of splines on your transmission. if 21, get a clutch for an 88. if 20, get one for an 89 civic. 90-2000 had the larger clutch disc. you can use a flywheel from an 88 with a 20 spline clutch, the discs are the same size. i ran my stock 88 flywheel with a clutch from an 89 rex so i could use my 91 si trans till i got it rebuilt.

So if i have a 90 or 91 si tranny, can i just use the same 200mm flywheel i have and order the clutch for an 89' si tranny. Anyone know if this will work.
