DIY way to lock the cam gears? Belt replacement
Hi all, im looking for any DIY methods of locking the cam gears in place whilst putting a replacement belt on a H22A (DOHC) engine? Please post up some ideas if you have some
Thanks in advance

wow all these responses and not one is the correct one. there are two holes on each cam plate that leads to a indentation in the cam. the plate has two holes so that way the cam plates can change from intake to exhaust so you have to see which hole lines up with the cam when the cam is at top dead center. then you use a 5mm rod and put it through the cam plate, it sticks in the cam and locks them down.
Yes but on the H22 engine these holes do not exsist from what I can tell? These camshaft holes mentioned in the manual are covered by plates on the H22. Can they be removed to reveal the holes? Or will that create a another issue?

no there are holes in the plate that allow you to stick the 5mm rod threw the cam plate and lock into the cam.
on each cam plate there are two holes that go threw it, one hole will line up with the exhaust cam hole one hole will line up with the intake cam. so that the plates could be swapped and not have issues.

Lol... There is the correct way, and there is my way. Dig through your wee bolt box, find the right size, and stick it inbetween the 2 cam gears where there is the smallest gap. The teeth will lock it in there.

They dont need to be locked. The tbelt jobs on those old Hondas are so easy I could do it half dead......
But if you must, zip ties work great.
