first off, what kind of engine setup do you have? obd0,1,2?

if you have obd0, pull the carpet back on the passenger side foot well. turn the ignition key to the "on" position and then count the number of flashes that the ecu throws. count them multiple times to make sure you're getting all the different codes, and then come back and let us know.

its just my stock 91 si hatch

i have done this before with my Type R; however, the engine light never went out unless i reset the ecu

The engine light goes out when i turn off the car for a second, then try to turn it back on.

i will try to check the code when it is running...see if that works.

that speedc site that tells you how to check it, says to check it when the engine is off and only the access. are on...thats how i did it on my type r

To check codes on an OBD0 civic, you don't need to do anything with a blue connector. As was already stated, you just need to pull back the carpet on the passenger side and count the blinks of the red light on the ECU with the key in the on position.

first i appologise for my stupidity...clearly checking the cel is different from my R, thank you both for telling me the proper way.

OK so heres the situation...

I thought it was the IACV...it isnt

The Cel is coming up as 1...so its telling me 02 sensor

HOWEVER, the car runs fine when cold and feels really solid. When it warms up or CEL comes on It runs good when you are driving smoothly. When you start to give it some jam it stutters and the Tack starts to jump, which makes me think they are related.

Do you think a new 02 sensor will fix everything?

seems like there is more going on under that hood

thanks for your time and advise, Morty.

Your 100% sure its code 1?
Describe "jump". I'm guessing the tach isn't accurately representing engine speed, but specifically how and when. does it go away when you drive normally again?

i have reset the ecu and when it comes back it just flashes. not in a row, no long flashes just 1 pause a couple seconds, 1... it never stops flashing.

The tach will go all over then place, then come back to normal then all over the place...no real pattern

cap and rotor are new...i will open it up and take a look....reading other threads people are suggesting the Ignitor in the distributor

Installed new 02...didnt fix the problem

The connections on the the ignitor need to have a strong connection. This happened to me on my rex. take the ignitor out and sand down the connections so there shinny again. Also crimp down the wire connectors so they will have a better connection. They will be harder to put on.
