Default Heater blew out a chunk of foam... wtf?

so today while driving home from my parents house that chunk of foam blew out of my windshield defroster vent at about the middle of the car. i was going about 45mph, my temperature **** was all the way up, my blower was all the way up, the defroster button was pressed, and it was on fresh air not recirculate. the foam came out right about the time my temperature started rising. i'm pretty sure this is nothing to worry about and not worth tearing apart my dash for but i wanted a few more opinions.

is this from a filter thats gonna make my car smell funky if i dont repair it or is it just a chunk of foam from where heater ducts connect or something?

Definitely nothing to worry about, probably from the seals for changing between which vents are open (defrost vs. floor vs. bi-level, etc). Happens to me every once in a while too, yay for aging cars!
