Default EBAY TURBO must see the damage

this is a little info for people . I had a lot of problems with this turbo on my s2000, spent alot of money tring to figure out why my vtec wasn't working anymore. after $2000.00 dollars at the garage and the dyno shop here is what we found. First of all I never installed a turbo and really didn't understand cheap stuff to better quality more expensive parts boy did I learn and I wanted to share my experience so you don't suffer like i did. When I installed this and had it dyno and tuned , the tuner was confused on the hp it was making under 8psi but did explain to me that my turbo is junk , meaning its cheaply made and didnt work on my car right. So im not saying this turbo wouldnt work on your car but im telling you its not going to last. i made 220 rhp . doesnt make alot of sense . what was happening was back pressure from the turbo not allowing the exhaust to get out fast enough and was causing my vtec not to work like it should. When I first installed the turbo I thought the car was alot faster than stock and and vtec did work. but what i didnt realize what was happening with using the cheap ebay turbo and what was happening to my vtec and hp.if you read my old post asking why my vtec was working and you could see i was doing every test possible . so this is why and why not to use cheap turbos like I did and please please save up for a good name brand one . this is why. Below is my turbo t3/t4 from ebay $120.00 exhaust side

so much heat was hitting this turbo causing it to heat up break apart and causing it to fold shut.

With the exhaust closing up was starting to cause alot of back pressure which was also messing up my vtec, and lost of hp

You get what you pay for. What did you think would happen?

I know theres alot of people out the that know a good turbo but there are other people like i used to be thinking whats the big deal. So one turbo brother to another please dont have the same mistake like i did. Also on another note Back pressure frm any turbo can cause you to loose performance , so please if you dont know what turbo will work best on your car , ask someone who really knows turbo.

sucks but yea, you get what you pay for...granted you probably ended up paying more than/same amount as if you'd gone with something that works correctly.

Is that a compressor wheel on the turbine side? Usually those thin cheap sheet metal looking fins are on the compressor side and the exhaust side has thick, heavy blades...which are usually not stepped like that.....

First complaint I've seen about a CXRacing turbo. I usually hear if the proper break-in period is taken then there wouldn't be any problems. You did do a break-in period, right?

ebay turbo kits are junk. Always best to piece a decent kit together with quality parts

Hmmm wonder when people will realize this about suspension parts and wheels...

I'm glad the op came out of it wiser, though.

I'm still curious to know if the proper break-in cycle was used. OP did you break in the turbo and if you did how did you?

I wonder what to think about the more expensive ebay turbos too (that are not name brand). A search for a GT28RS results in a few $600 turbos with no mention of being a Garrett, and the stamp on the housing says GT28SR.

There are about 5 "good" companies...other then that, pony up a little more and get something that you KNOW is quality.

Same here, I'd think by now people would know better.

Sucks that the s2k's are becoming cheaper and idiots are buying them, and trying to slap on a 300 dollar turbo "kit"

lol I don't know if the OP is an idiot. He was just probably uninformed. But yeah...the S2000 getting cheap and being open for experimentation kinda sucks. It's the new civic.
