Default 98 gs speedo problem

So I bought a 98 gs the other week and I was ripping it and ilook down and I'm going 0 at like 70 mph... My check engine light came on 2 hours before th speedo broke so I'm thinking a speed sensor problem maybe? Does autozone or something do free obd2 scans? And I'm at 3,200 rpms at 70... This deff isn't a ls trans... Pulls too hard. How can I find what trans I have? Thanks guys.

your local auto shop should provide code pulling for free.

id check that out.

you havent played around with your cluster have you? and maybe forgot to plug a wire back in?

im not sure if the tranny you have is a gsr one, seems like the rpm's might be too low for 70, i think gsr's usually run higher than that, but i may be wrong.
