Default reccommend a muffler???

Was wondering if someone can reccommend a good free flowing (straight through) QUIET muffler.

I am looking for something that is 2-3/4 inches.

This is going on ek hatch with a k20a2, although this doesnt really matter since welding is not an issue to make something fit, just want to see what people have been using.

Again Quiet and Free Flowing are the key points here.

I should say that I currently have Skunk2 Mega Power R "which is freaking loud"

A twin loop like the OBX will do a decent job as long as you're running a seperate resonator as well. I know it's "OBX" and I wouldn't normally recommend anything from them but I have seen people make good use of their muffler. I run a Hytech twin loop which made a big difference in sound from my old T1R exhaust without any drop in power. If money isn't an issue, I'd look for the Hytech muffler.

I'm using that set-up with 2.5" Kteller piping and no cat. It's buzzy and raspy and I think a highflow cat is a must for that combo.

Apexi sells a 2.25" and 3" axel back WS2. That's a really quiet muffler. I have the catback on my DD.

add another resonator than or a cat. that will kill the rasp. i ran the ws2 on my old car with a resonated test pipe and inside it was awful sounding. droned and rasp. outside was ok though. won't ever use that overpriced exhaust again though.

If "quiet" is as important as your capitalized letters would imply, you are not going to be happy with any straight through muffler, even a twin loop. Quiet mufflers are not straight through. Some keep things quieter than others, but they all allow some decent noise to pass through.

I can assure you that the twin loop is much quieter than any typical straight through exhaust. It's only slightly louder than a stock type R exhaust.

There is no such thing. No true straight through design will be quite. As posted already, a twin-loop is probably going to be the best compromise.

i just did a 3 " ebay stainless 150$ shipped ,cat back n1style carbon fiber can, on my lsvtec ek with a 3" magnaflow free flow cat and a bisi equal length header. with the windows up 75mph highway no silencer you can talk on the phone without a problem. with the silencer in you cant even hear the muffler! my whale ***** is louder than the exhaust at cruise with the silencer in !

btw its straight thru!

now that i think about it ,the 3" with a resonator is quieter than my factory 00 dx exhaust when i had b18b stock header no cat and dx factory exhaust.

didnt you post this in the eg/ek forum... and get the exact same answers? I would just find sound clips of everything that has been mentioned and make a decision. beating this horse to death gets old here on HT. poeple ask this 10 times a day.
GL on your choice.

That's quite a bit louder than a stock ITR exhaust. Sure, Twin Loops are slightly quieter than many other straight through mufflers, but they still make plenty of noise.

The ugly truth...

If you are looking for "stock" or "close to stock" sound levels, only a chambered muffler will do!
You'll sacrifice ~3-5 HP at the altar of power (compared to a TL or straight through muffler), but you'll enjoy your time inside the cabin once again..

Correct on the sound level statement. But wrong on the power statement. Gains can be much much greater than 3-5 HP when going to a straight through muffler.

You're right, THAT car isn't that quiet but what else is done to the exhaust? I run a Hytech twin loop cat-back exhaust on my car with the 18" resonator and a 200 cell high flow cat and it IS quieter than that car and slightly louder than a stock ITR exhaust.

It seems I misread the OP's post...

My comments were assuming 2.375" diameter piping, not the 2.75 inch (2-3/4) the OP is actually looking for.
