hot or cold? idle or over 3500rpm?

oil pressures can vary between 8psi all the way up to 70-80psi.

Usually 15-20psi at idle and around 80ish max. I believe the spring pressure is suppose to be 78psi, but I might be off on that as its bee awhile since i looked it up.

20-25 at idle
75-80 max

This is with the larger Honda S2000 oil filter. The new small filters raise these numbers by approximately 5-10psi.

my stock d16y8 with mazda oem 5w30 oil, shown on mecanical gage:
winter: 90 psi cold on idle, 100+ at 3000 rpms, 38 psi idle (800) hot, 85 psi max

idle is anywhere from 10-20psi After full warmup

4k rpm crusing is around 50-60psi
Redline used to be around 80psi
Last night it only made it to 75psi..
mobil1 itr oil filter..
Any recommendations on a better filter to raise oil psi?

SS braded line running to my Autometer compsport II oil pressure gauge.
Split off of my GE b20v kit.. Second oil change on synthetic oil.
Vtec cracks hard, nothing i can see, just ocd and noticed it on the way home last night,

As filter cross-section decreases, system pressure increases.

You can use the newer Honda filters, they are probably as small as you can get without sacraficing filtration efficiency.

You can always shim the oil pump to increase base pressure.

you guys that have 20ish oil psi at idle on a warm motor have your bearing clearances set too loose.

Idle pressure has to do with what rpm your car idles at. I get 10-15 psi on 750 idle and 20-25 psi on 1000 idle.

I get 38 psi at 750, stock motor. It reaches max oil press. from 3000 rpms weather I'm cruising or wot.

I've never reached anything past 80psi at WOT at 9500rpms.

I notice that on the guage it'll hit 80 then bounce back like a limiter and hold 75psi.. i was just checking.. i'm ocd.. i guess.

thats about where its supposed to be. 40ish.

when the engine heats up the bearing clearences grow so if you set them to loose then they get even looser and the oil pressure goes away. not to mention is creates excess vibration. its amazing how many people second guess the OEM clearances.

My oil pressure runs at 20 psi warm at idle and I use OEM honda bearings that were mic'd to OEM specs. This was done using a dial bore guage and digital micrometer.

then again, what is the most accurate way to mesure oil press? Mine came with the car, its not an autometer but its not a ricer one with fancy colors and numbers.

I see 1.5 to 2 bar on a warm engine at idle. Cold start it maxxes the guage at 5 bar.
Mobil1
0w-40 synthetic.

How does 25ish psi determine what's too low? I've never been fond of blanket statements. Would you please qualify yours?
can i get paid for it?

nope......and neither does anyone else posting on this website....but we would love to hear how you know more than the honda engineer who came up with the minimum oil pressure specs in the manual.

40psi at idle is normal? in a dream world perhaps.....

10-15 psi at idle..
crusing is anywhere from 30-50psi depending on revs

at WOT its 70+psi.. i guess its fine.

i will agree w/ omniman here

you should have around 40 psi @ 750-850rpm warm idle

25-35psi is ok but certainly not optimal

if you have less than 25psi at idle you have a problem. looses clearances in the bearings or pump itself or an internal leak.

im sure honda is giving the minimum psi needed from a worn motor for safe normal operation. definately not intended for performance operation or beating on the motor.

high rpm you should have 80psi+

depending on the oil you're using, you will notice a difference in psi as well.

btw allmotor, i thought you were supposed to be the oil expert here on h-t

didnt you make a thread a couple months ago on "oil and its purpose in a motor"

also why not ask your buddy donf about oil pressure? im guessing you cant get ahold of him these days huh

40psi at idle.....bullshit. Not even with extremely tight clearances are you going to be at 40psi. Much less where they should be. You are correct, Honda's 10psi is where it needs to be rebuilt/looked at, however 15-20psi is normal.

Isnt this just about a brand new engine?
You got any flakes in your oil?
If it were me, I would drop the pan, remove the center main caps, remove the rod caps and inspect your bearings. The last thing you want is a damaged crank journal. Better safe than sorry!

suite yourself

btw, if you want to see 40psi @ warm idle just come to any event and take a look at my car

i see over 80psi cold idle btw
