Default 95 civic ex engine will accelerate but vehicle speed slowly accelerates

hello all i have a 95 civic ex that i just replace a bad automatic transmission in. i went to drive the car for the first time today and everything seemed fine it would go into gear just fine but when i left and stepped on the gas it took until vtec hit to really accelerate. it doesnt seem like its accelerating like it should and i have no idea where to start diagnosing. any help would be appreciated.
oh btw the fluid is new and good isnt burnt or anything.

BUMP!!!!
any one else ever have this problem?
i changed torque converters today hoping that would fix the problem but it does the exact same thing?
so im wondering could a sensor be out??
