Default Mis-shift....fail

Some pics of my friends mis-shift from a little bit ago. Finally now got them uploaded.

I believe it was 5th to 2nd with an "EX" trans in a '95 Del Sol with a d15z1 motor (vtec-e lean-burner).

Ripping it apart.

Something here doesn't belong.

Missing something?

I think the valves aren't seating...

Valve stem sticking through.

When the valve cover came off we saw that most of the valve keepers came off and were just sitting all around, on top of the head, which is why the valves hit the pistons.

spending time to even pull the head off a blown D series is strange. you just pull the whole thing and get 50 bucks for it at the recyclers man.

That was my thought. He just wanted to see the carnage I think.

This was actually kinda a "hybrid" del sol in that he converted it to accept the vtec-e motor and have lean-burn work correctly. He was getting 40+ mpg. Luckily he had another d15z1 to drop-in. Fixed by the next day.

I came with nice clothes on (think I drove 6 hours from VA at the time) so I just took some pictures instead of getting dirty. There were three of them there plus me, so they had no trouble getting the D-series and trans out with some jack stands and a floor jack.
