quick question - timing belt

Default quick question - timing belt

Should I take my car for the major package (timing belt, waterpump, etcc)
to the dealer?
for $529

or to an independent shop

for $395

??

what did you guys do?

That depends if you think the Honda parts guarantee is worth the extra money. An independent mechanic may not offer the same warrantee on the parts... if for some reason the timing belt should fail and cause catastrophic engine failure, Honda will replace it. The mechanic won't. But that's a rare instance, and the only reason I can think of for going to the dealer for service.
