Default 90 accord speedometer problem/stalling

Hi everyone,
I usually post in other sections that this one, but i have a problem with my wifes 90 accord ex (auto).
after the recent rain we have had in our area, she was driving the car (not raining at the time) and the speedometer went to 0 and the car started sputtering. when she tried to make it to the nearest parking lot, trafic didnt let her and when she stopped the car, it stalled and she couldnt get it started again. when i got there and got the car started finally, the lock on the gear selector wouldnt unlock to take it out of park for the first few attempts. I even tried the shifter unlock, where you put the key in next to the shifter. Once i was able to get the car out of park and let the car idle for a while it seemed to run just fine and made it home.

I am thinking water possibly got into the wire harness, but im not sure.

Has anyone else had this problem? if so what was it? I would like to find the cause of this and fix it to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks in advance for any help.
