Default B16A pistons...

What pistons would be better for a b16a -- civic or integra type-r? Itr pistons would run a 10.6 to 10.8:1 cr, where a ctr piston would run a 12:1(approx) cr. Would 12:1 be too much? Just curious if anyone has ever done this setup before.

Never done it b4 but I would recommend the ITR. 12:1 is quite high and can become a bit of a risk for normal street fuel. Interesting though I always thought CTR and ITR had similar compression

I'm no expert obviously but wouldn't ITR pistons be to big for the b16? Plus wouldn't compression be a little bit high for street gas?

I like what "Katman" and the "FFsquad" have for B-series and the different piston/block/head-compression #. For the B16A-Block/Head with P73 OO pistons you'll have 10.6-10.7:1 and with the PCT pistons you'll have 11.4-11.5:1 compression ratio. I have on my other CPU a link to a "B-series compression calculator" which a lot of people argue is correct and "Katman" is wrong. I will post the link on this Topic later today, it shows the correct #'s for a stock setup but when you start mixing the Block/Head/Piston/1-2-3 layer gaskets/and bore dia. the #'s seem low, really low compared to "Katman".

ITR pistons will fit in any B-series execpt B20's. B-series bore size are 81 mm std. B20 is the only odd ball with a 84 mm bore. I have Std. CTR pistons in my 1st gen B16a. It runs very well. I put down 140 whp and 100 tq untuned. I am still using stock b16 cams. From what I gather CTR pistons in B16a yeild a 11.1:1 CR. I installed a mugen HG and that raises CR .2. So I am running around 11.3. I have had no problems with knocking. I keep the timing advanced a little and always run 93 octane. Let us know if you have any qusetions. Heres that Dyno: http://www.geocities.com/phatoptimo/Dyno5-31-02.html
BTW I know the vtec X-over is way off. Its UNTUNED

Here is a compression calculator for the B-series, damn no B20B/Z blocks though.
